Cadillac CT6 includes first surround-view recording system

In addition to allowing drivers to view live video from the surround-view camera setup, the CT6 also lets them record footage, in one of two modes, onto an SD card located in the car's boot.

In the first mode, the system can record video from both the grille- and boot-mounted cameras when the car's switched on.

The second mode is only available when the car is locked and the security system engaged. In this configuration, the system will cycle through all four surround-view cameras, but will only record when the car detects suspicious activity.

According to Cadillac, the system can be used by drivers to "record events such as a memorable drive, for security in the case of a vehicle being tampered with or to record an incident".

As with other a surround-view camera systems, the CT6 melds together vision from various cameras scattered around the car. These various sources are manipulated and stitched together as one continuous overhead stream that can be viewed on the infotainment screen, and can help drivers navigate tight spaces.

In the CT6, the cameras for the surround-view system include the units on the underside of the wing mirrors, one peering out from the grille, and one looking backwards from the boot lid. The three other cameras available on the CT6 — for the electronic rear 'mirror', lane keeping assistance and night vision systems — aren't utilised here.
