There is something about the C63 that I love. I just want to drive one. One drove past the other day with its lovely burble and it literally sounded like a gang of bikies riding past, the engine and exhaust note is ridiculously desirable.

Maybe… Maybe not.

The C63 goes through tires faster, $800 a pop for rears.
The IS F rides better under “normal” (legal) speeds.
The IS F debatably, has a “nicer” sounding engine, less brawly, more refined – Think RS4 (with the intake port thing that opens up @~3500rpm on the F).
Personally I also love the F’s ‘box. The gears are a bit short, maybe it has 1 or 2 too many, but bloody hell it shifts fast, and downshifts are INSTANT (0.1 Seconds, that’s just sub-par of the 430 Scud’)

Don’t forget price….

Maybe so (@ Mercedes nomenclature).

However i’m pretty sure Acfsambo is right. German tax laws. Basically they do what they do everywhere else, milk every cent out of you as they can. So naturally, given the engine is ANYTHING above the 6200cc mark, it has to be rounded up to 6300 and along with that, a higher tax rate.

Taken from Wiki, M156 (the 6.2 V8) page -> “Although it displaces 6.208 liters, the engine will be marketed as the “6.3″ to comply with German car tax laws, which require them to be rounded up to the nearest 100 cc.”

They could have gone to alllll this trouble… or, simply re-flashed the ECU, remove the “de-tuning”, remap the engine, let it put out 410KW at the crank and guess what, better fuel economy too, who’d have thought?

plus in marketing , certain numbers hold a psychological advantage over others so rather than increasing the capacity to near 6.3, just change the badge. and Yes Mercedes has done this for decades

It has nothing to do with laws, just how the company chooses to lable the engine size.

If the engine were made here or in the USA or Japan yes it would, but the Laws on saying what size the engine is in Europe are different. if it over a certain amout sat its 6221cc, it goes to a 6.3L engine. It could be a 6202cc and still go to a 6.3L. At least that’s my understanding of it.
