Toyota stand at Tokyo Motor Show

Toyota featured a high-tech approach to its stand at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show with virtual test drives and interactive displays punctuating the traditional all-car stage.
On hand to discuss Toyota’s vision for the future was Mr Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation, who gave a brief introduction on Toyota’s history before introducing two new models to the floor.
The two concept vehicles display each end of Toyota’s vehicle spectrum with the TF-EVII environmentally orientated city car and FT-86 sports car unveiled.
Mr Toyoda was particularly enthusiastic upon unveiling the FT-86 concept saying that the lack of a sports car in the Toyota range made himĀ “as a serious car fan feel really sad”.
He went on to say that he feared many car manufacturers has been too concerned with what they as a manufacturer were concerned with was often not what the customer wanted, and hoped the FT-86 would help Toyota get back to a place they had “drifted away from”. I am sure the connotation was implied.
Other new models to join the Toyota stage were the new rear-wheel drive Mark X (pictured above) and Sai Hybrid.

everytime i see the ft 86 i’m jsut like omg…
Mark X shares platforms with the Toyota Crown does it not? The Crowm is one very good car.
hell yes!!!!
And as a car fan, Toyota actually making and selling the FT86 here at a decent price, manual gearbox, added lightness etc, would make me feel really happy. :)
really, when? i’m also glad to hear that
awesome…. absolutely awesome…..
Now will this be the RE-incarnation of the CELICA or the SUPRA………hopeing the celica with a 4wd turbo model…..OMG goodness….. im getting one regardless on if they release one here in aus…..
and if they dont make a 4wd turbo model… i will build one myself……
No turbo planned, and AWD may be too difficult because they’ve moved the engine too far back compared to the standard Impreza chassis.
That Mark X looks distinctly Chinese to me. And is rather awful, especially that badge.
FT-86 rocks! It’s so cool. Red suits this model perfectly.
The creases and lines on the front bonnet looks like a BMW inspired design. I like aggressive rear design better than the front.
