2016 Mercedes-Benz SLK recalled for steering issue

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall notice for 28 vehicles in its SLK roadster range.

According to the German car maker, affected vehicles may have been fitted with incorrectly-sized nuts on the rear-axle tie rods during production.

This may cause the nuts to loosen, affecting the steering characteristics of the car and potentially leading to an accident.

The recall affects examples of the SLK built between January 1, 2016 and March 30, 2016.

Fifteen examples of the SLK were recalled back in May over fears a battery issue could cause the car’s electric park brake and gear selector to fail.

Speaking with CarAdvice this week, Mercedes-Benz Australia's David McCarthy said the issue may extend to a handful of the recently-facelifted SLC roadsters - formerly badged as the SLK -  though issues with those vehicles will be fixed before they are delivered to customers.

Mercedes-Benz Australia will contact owners of vehicles affected by this latest recall via mail.
