2017 Porsche Panamera teaser video reveals 911-inspired rump

Just hours after a set of revealing new spy photos surfaced, showing off all but the internal styling of the new model's lighting, a new official teaser video has appeared.

More a well-groomed trip down memory lane, the short clip reveals almost nothing of the new model over its one minute and 18 seconds - except for a glimpse of its rear.

The image above, which fronts the video as a preview 'thumbnail', offers the first official look at the new 2017 Panamera.

Much of the car remains hidden in shadow, but shown clearly are new 911-inspired tail-lights that were convincingly disguised on earlier prototype test cars by large vinyl graphics modelled off the outgoing Panamera's rear lamps.

The teaser also shows an LED band connecting the lights, which, like the all-wheel-drive variants of the 911, could hint at an all-paw configuration for this particular variant.

The debut of this new look also confirms the extent to which the popular 2012 Panamera Sport Turismo had previewed the new model, with a very similar design worn at the rear of that wagon-styled concept. (A wagon version of the new Panamera has also been spied testing.)

Little else about the new Panamera has been confirmed, although it is known that the Volkswagen group's MSB platform will form the basis, leading to a drop in weight of around 100kg.

Turbocharged V6 and V8 petrol engines will star, along with diesel and plug-in hybrid options.
