The other thing you have to consider is delivery costs - In Australia, we have a massive area in which cars need to be delivered, but a tiny tiny percentage of the population (and therefore car sales) of somewhere like the US. This means the transportation costs per car are much higher, thus higher costs here.
Also, the prices are often based on old exchange rates - Car companies weren't going to drop new car prices (and therefore severely hurt the Used car market in Australia) just because the exchange rates have improved...
That said, if this car sold in Aus. for circa $30k, I'd be in line in no time!!!

You need to read the article in December 2009 top gear magazine. Makes out that even even Toyotas chairman says their products are boring and not attractive to younger people anymore and this is the result to attract them back from the play stations and x-boxes. Couldn't agree more. Not a bad result and would imagine it will sell well. Apparently its designed with oversteer to attract folk even more to sliding. Mildly irresponsible i'd say.

I like it great idea but that back really doesn't do it for me, I think if they got rid of the grey plastic from the bottom of the car it would look much nicer also I think it would look nice in a dark gunmetal grey allow the back lights to stand out more. Just to annoy a few people probably be REALLY reliable as well making it a good choice for a sporty car.

I agree, anyone who thinks Toyota will sell this for <$30K in Australia are dreaming!

Ultimately this is a low volume, high margin car (in comparison to your everyday Corollas) and Toyota will price it accordingly.

If you were in business would you compete on price lol? As any good businessman will tell you, price is the last thing you compete on.

Manufacturers don't go looking for a price war because that just ends up hurting their bottom line.
