2016 Mini Cooper and Cooper S hatch pricing and specifications

Australian pricing and details for the 2016 Mini Cooper and Cooper S hatch range have been revealed today, bringing a revised equipment spread for the new model year.

Both variants of the Cooper and Cooper S remain unchanged in terms of performance, but have gained a number of upgrades to both standard and optional features lists.

For the new model year, the Cooper and Cooper S will also continue to be offered in both three- and five-door variants.

As with the 2015 line-up, the updated range will be offered with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Automatic is standard, with the manual available as a no-cost option.

Power in the 2016 Mini Cooper is again provided by the BMW group's turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, which makes 100kW of power and 220Nm of torque.

The price of entry into the Cooper range remains unchanged for the new model year, with the three-door Cooper starting at $26,650 and the five-door kicking off at $27,750 (both before on-road costs).

As with pricing, the Cooper's standard specifications also carry over largely unchanged, although it now comes with halogen fog lights at no extra cost.

A new Multimedia Essentials package can now be fitted at a cost of $1500, which adds Mini navigation, radio Mini visual boost, bluetooth mobile with USB audio streaming and front armrest, along with a reversing camera with guidance lines.

On top of the Multimedia package, the Pepper package can also be added for a further $2000, which features 16-inch ‘Loop Spoke’ light-alloy wheels in a silver finish.

The Multimedia Essentials packages then unlocks the Convenience package ($1800), which features Comfort Access and alarm system, park assist with front and rear park distance control and interior and exterior mirrors with automatic anti-dazzle function.

The Cooper S is again powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 141kW of power and 280Nm.

Pricing for the Cooper S three- and five-door hatch sits at $37,750 and $38,850 (before on-road costs), respectively. This reflects a price increase of $800 over both previous variants.

Standard features with the Cooper S will now include LED headlights for low and high beam, LED daytime running lights and LED front fog lights along with a reversing camera with guidance lines.

The optional Convenience Package ($1800) now adds Comfort Access and alarm system, park assist with front and rear park distance control and interior and exterior mirrors with automatic anti-dazzle function.

A Control package can also be fitted at a cost of $1500 and brings with it adaptive LED headlights and driving lights as well as tyre-pressure monitoring.

The Control package also features Driver Assistant which includes video active cruise control, forward-collision warning, city-crash mitigation and high beam assist.

All Cooper and Cooper S variants are covered by a three-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, with some service and maintenance costs covered by the optional Mini Service Inclusive.
