2019 Peugeot 3008 plug-in hybrid will kick off EV efforts

Maxime Picat, CEO of the Peugeot brand, has told Autocar that the company will begin its electrified car offensive in 2019. That's when the lion brand will launch a plug-in hybrid version of the, just unveiled, second-generation 3008 crossover.

The 3008 PHEV will reportedly feature all-wheel-drive and an electric driving range of around 50 kilometres.

According to Picat, the company is planning to launch pure electric versions of its smaller vehicles, such as the 208 and 2008. Larger cars, like the 3008, will instead utilise a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

In April of this year, Group PSA unveiled its latest strategy, dubbed Push to Pass, where it committed to launching seven plug-in hybrids and four pure EVs by 2021.

Earlier this month, PSA announced a deal with Dongfeng, its Chinese production partner and 13 percent shareholder, to co-develop an electric and plug-in version of the common modular platform that the two are already working on. This EV component set will be ready by 2019, and will be used on Peugeot, Citroen, DS and Dongfeng branded cars.

At present, the only electric vehicle retailed by the PSA Group is the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero, both of which are rebadged versions of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
