Video: Armoured Rolls-Royce ballistics testing

By George Skentzos |

Armoured prestige vehicles are certainly nothing new; BMW and Mercedes-Benz have purpose built models developed specifically to keep their VIP owners out of harm’s way.

But explosives and firearms testing is something we haven’t come across before, and it makes for some interesting viewing – especially when applied to a million-dollar Rolls-Royce Phantom.

    Hmm, was that really bullet-proof?

    • Car Fanatic

Yes, the panels are standard with armour plating underneath, from the look of that rifle they are using NATO 7.62mm which can punch through the engine block of a car and I’m talking cast iron block. This will also give you an indication as to how strong that glass is.

I wish they had shown the inside of the car after all this punishment so we could get an idea of how well the occupants would have been protected.

This is all very well, but what about an attack mode? I mean, if a Mustang Shelby GT500KR can already do that and more, like transforming into a truck, I don’t see why this aristocratic machine can’t do it.

Attack mode? Are you talking about Transformers?

      • Septem

Surely the autobots do not need a machine as ugly as this!

  • Yanzo

i drive so good i can dodge the bullets.

so how much does it weigh? very mafia looking car

  • Dave

the only mass produced bulletproof cars on earth are an Australian 4.0Litre Ford Falcon EST 1989 since the 3.9L I6 EA to the brand new 4.0L FG DOHC I6.

    • Car Fanatic

Bullet proof huh? I bet I could smash their engine blocks with a 7.62 round Davey boy

  • Dave

    sorry, i meant engine wise!

  • Tom R

Bulletproof until it breaks down. We’ve had four Fords, and we love them, but god im sick of them falling apart. Its like using clag to paste armourproof panels onto a car =P If they stay on, your bulletproof.
