TVR showcases iStream Carbon chassis for new sports car

British sports-car brand TVR is edging closer to its rebirth, previewing its new coupe with the lightweight carbon-fibre chassis that will underpin it.

The new two-door hero is scheduled for a public debut sometime next year, more than a decade after the company ceased production in 2006.

TVR has already announced the new model will be designed and engineered in collaboration with legendary tuning company Cosworth and Gordon Murray Design, creator of the iStream technology that will underpin the upcoming sports coupe.

At the recent London motor show, TVR showed a 1966 Griffith 400 alongside a full-size development model of the upcoming car, albeit concealed under a sheet.

Ahead of its launch next year, the company plans to reveal the car at a private event for those who have put down deposits on the car. Some 400 deposits have already been pledged, and TVR says there are less than 100 vehicles left of the reported ‘Launch Edition’ model.

Powering the new sports coupe will be a naturally-aspirated, dry-sumped Cosworth-developed V8.

The new coupe’s underpinnings will be sourced from Gordon Murray’s iStream architecture, which deploys Formula One technology to reduce weight while enhancing performance and fuel efficiency.

A cutaway teaser image of the new TVR (top of page) depicts the car’s iStream Carbon tub along with the suspension and the Cosworth-sourced V8 engine.

While final pricing is yet to be announced, the upcoming TVR sports coupe is believed to start around 65,000 pounds ($131,219), while the mooted ‘Launch Edition’ is reported to start around 100,000 pounds ($201,715).
