Rolls-Royce Phantom Zenith:: final edition takes assembly line with it

The Rolls-Royce Phantom coupe and Drophead, two of the most luxurious and exclusive cars in the world, are being given a noble send-off before the seventh generation ceases production.

The Zenith collection, announced earlier this year, celebrates one of the automotive world’s most iconic luxury cars, combining bespoke touches with an engraved piece of metal plucked from the Phantom’s actual assembly line in Goodwood, England.

The Zenith collection is the two-door Phantom’s last hurrah before the new, aluminium-intensive eighth-generation Phantom enters production, tipped to make its debut in 2018. Rolls-Royce announced earlier this year that the two-door Phantom variants will not be replaced in the new generation.

Just 50 examples of the Zenith collection will be produced, in Phantom coupe and Phantom Drophead bodies, all of which have already been “commissioned” by “connoisseur” customers.

Several bespoke details are featured in the Zenith collection, including a glass shelf housed within the rear section of the split tailgate, a champagne fridge - large enough to hold “two standard bottles and eight Rolls-Royce glasses” - and even a leather-padded section of the tailgate for those who wish to sit on it.

Inside, the armrest caps are laser-etched with the location of each variant’s concept debut - Lake Como for the Drophead, which was previewed by the 100EX and Lake Geneva for the coupe, where its 101EX forebear debuted.

Adding to the exclusive touches, the drawer in the cabin’s central fascia contains a removable polished aluminium case, laser-engraved with the vehicle’s unique identification number, also houses a single piece from the Phantom assembly line.

The collector’s item is complemented by an expression of the piece’s co-ordinates, stating the exact part of the assembly line from where the metal was extracted, almost as if the factory wants to say: “remember where you came from”.

Other touches exclusive to the Zenith collection include a brushed steel finish for the speedometer, contrasting interior colour scheme, along with a special formation for the stars in the hand-woven ‘Starlight Headliner’ - which made its debut in the Phantom coupe - that are clustered at the front and faded at the rear to bathe the driver and front passenger in a “warm and inviting celestial glow”.

Rolls-Royce is currently crafting the Zenith collection vehicles at the Goodwood factory, before production of the two-door Phantoms ends towards the end of the year.

The conclusion of 2016 will also see the seventh-generation Phantom limousine cease production. Rolls-Royce is inviting customers to take the last opportunity to place orders on the final examples of the current Phantom, which has been on sale since 2003.

As for Australia, just one of the 50 Zenith vehicles planned will come here, under the ownership of Rolls-Royce in Melbourne.
