The current Focus made its debut in 2010, and while no official word has been given on the new model’s timing, an unveiling in the next year is likely.

Test mules for the next-generation Focus have been spotted testing recently, however, other than slight changes to the car’s size, the prototypes gave no indication of what the new car will look like.

These two front and rear renderings, created by independent Dutch blogger Remco Meulendijk, borrow heavily from the larger Mondeo mid-sizer and the Edge SUV, creating a sporty wagonette design that gives us a guess of what the new Focus might look like in a year or two.

The front-end retains the Aston Martin-inspired grille echoed throughout Ford’s passenger car range, along with two grooves extending across the length of the bonnet.

A prominent shoulder crease extends from the headlights to the tail lights under a sloping roofline. Out back the rendered Focus borrows the Mondeo’s tail light shape and trapezoidal tailpipes.

The Edge influence is evident in the unified tail light design with a thin strip connecting the two sides, making the car appear wider.

As with the current generation, the new Ford Focus should be available in both sedan and hatchback body styles, with a wagon version likely to be offered in Europe.

Technology-wise, the next-generation Focus is likely to borrow from its larger stablemates, including the latest Sync 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with advanced safety features such as the inflatable seat belts already seen in the Mondeo mid-sizer.
