2018 Audi Q3 spied
The next-generation Audi Q3 has been spotted, albeit briefly, by our European spy photography team.
Although the prototype's brown overalls give it the look of a three-door model, we can see rear door handles poking out. In fact, the tight fit of the brown covering gives a few more clues about the car's styling than we might otherwise be privy to.
There seems to be a prominent, and flat, shoulder line running from the leading edge of the bonnet, around the sides and across the tailgate. Up front, there's a sharp-edged interpretation of Audi's single-frame grille.
Out the rear, the wide, but thin, set of lights embedded into the bumper indicates the new Q3 will continue with Audi's signature clamshell tailgate design, which has been used on every one of the brand's crossovers, except for the Q2.
It's expected that the second-generation Q3 will grow to give the recently unveiled Q2 a bit more space. For reference, the new Q2 has a length of 4191mm, the current Q3 is 4385mm long, the Q5 is 4639mm, and the Q7 has a length of 5072mm.
Under the skin, the new Q3 will utilise the Volkswagen Group's MQB component matrix for front- and all-wheel-drive cars. Its engine options will probably be similar to those offered in the second-generation Tiguan, which has turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motors stretching from 92 to 162kW, and turbo-diesel engines ranging from 75 to 176kW.
Given that the present Q3 went on sale in 2011, we expect the next-generation Q3 to debut in either late 2017 or early 2018.
