Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint donated for Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund: Build 1/750 manual XR8 Sprint up for grabs

Ford Australia has donated the first production Falcon XR8 Sprint to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund) to be auctioned for charity.

Money raised from the vehicle auction will go toward the JDRF Artificial Pancreas Project, which aims to automate insulin pumps and help improve therapies and to provide a 'technological cure' for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

In addition to donating the sold out manual XR8 Sprint, Ford Australia has also committed $60,000 on top of $13,000 that was contributed by employees during 2015.

Over the past 15 years, Ford Australia has contributed a total of $500,000 to the JDRF, cementing their support for the cause.

“Our support of Professor Jones’ team’s innovative diabetes research underpins our commitment to serve our communities as we become Australia’s largest automotive employer,” said Graeme Whickman, Ford Australia President and CEO. “The Falcon XR8 Sprint is a truly memorable vehicle, a tribute to the ongoing, innovative work by our local development team.

“This iconic car will contribute in a small way to another Australian innovation under development by JDRF to help save young lives.”

JDRF Australia CEO and managing director, Mike Wilson, says that partners like Ford Australia go a long way toward creating a future without type 1 diabetes.

“Type 1 diabetes strikes more children in Australia each week, hampering and damaging adult lives, causing serious illness and in some tragic cases, death,” said Mr Wilson.

“JDRF’s vision is ambitious – a world without type 1 diabetes – and our work is grounded in a realistic action plan for research. We are confident in the path to a cure, but research funding and support are critical.”

“We are able to deliver real progress in T1D research thanks to the financial support of valued partners like Ford Australia.”

The vehicle auction runs from May 7 until midnight on May 31, 2016. The vehicle included in the auction features a six-speed manual gearbox and is finished in 'Winter White'.

The bid currently sits at $63,000, making this an absolute bargain considered the model is currently sold out.
