I like hyundai i when i was buying my car i didnt know for them. I went to Subaru dealer becouse i was planing to buy one. I didnt like the filling inside the car it was sortof small, plastic. Next to them was Hyundai and on display was Hyundai cupe fx 2000 model i love the unusual curve of the car , it was sortof fluid. inside it was room for my legs so i bought a car. Now it is 8 years and it drive great newer ewer have not even 1 problem with car. Always taking to Hyundai service.

people always coment on it is nice looking car and then when they find out is hyundai they start talking about how bad is compani
I always tell them same "If conpani is confident enough to give u a warranty 5 years at least this 5y u will newer hawe a problem.

What about Honda, Toyota and the rest of them can they give u 5 years ?? are they confident that will not have brake down in 5 years ??

Go Hyundai !!!!!

Bit harsh Reckless (just liv'n up to the theme?), you gotta admit the Santa Fe resembles a Tourag (from behind anyway) and Baji, for your first go at this site, I reckon you're pretty close to the mark. But Stone & Sexythang are spot on. Hyundai need to do some serious advertising and keep offering their 5 year (8 year via certain dealers) warranty as this will show their own commitment to their brand, and therefore build brand loyalty over time.

problem with hyundai is the name. it sounds bad. therefore cannot be associated with a high quality product. you will need lotsa advertising and concrete proof to change it.

mazda is a good case thier car (mazda 3) is on par with the ford focus (and usually car journalists all prefer the ford over the competing mazda) but mazda still sells more.

competition is welcomed though to keep other car makers like honda, toyota and VW (car prices in check)

esp toyota which is making new sportscars on all fronts now. you'd thought they'd run out of steam on thier way to becoming world no.1

Really the problem with Hyundai is a lack of serious brand advertsiing. Maybe I have missed the advertising, but most of the advertising I see is from one of the dealer advertising cheap Getz and that Hyundai generousity ad.

Instead what they really really need is a brand or corporate image, that isn't cheap and cheerful. Spend some money making themselves look good. A good example is the way Mazda rebranded with their Zoom Zoom ads (and cars that looked sporty). Mazda spent several years just push the Zoom Zoom Zoom ads.

Of course you then need to make sure the cars match the ads.

Baji, you have a serious flaw in your credibility - confusing a Hyundai Santa Fe with a Touareg ????? I have poor vision, but not that poor!!!

It's also false thinking that all cars from one manufacturer need a common theme to be successful. You are a Marketing student, perhaps?

I mean, a Landcruaser 70 series has nothing in common looks wise, or theme wise with any model Corolla.

The Mazda MX5 looks nothing like the CX7, the new Subaru looks nothing like the last one which looked nothing like the one before, and in fact looks like a Camry up front and a mixture of a dozen other cars at the rear.

The Nissan Tiida looks nothing like the Murano, or the Patrol, or the Pathfinder.......

People will have a high satisfaction level with a car when the following conditions are met -

The car suits their purpose
The car looks good to them
The price is close to what they would like to pay
Bits don't fall off
It doesn't break down
When there is a problem, the dealer fixes it with a smile and minimal inconvenience
They are comfortable when driving it
It uses the amount of fuel they are comfortable with.

They don't give a crap that it looks the same as every other model from the same manufacturer.

They don't give a crap what others think of their choice because they bought the right car.

hey all... i've been reading this site for a while but haven't posted any comments. Great site btw keep up the good work. I've been to the dealerships and seen a lot of the cars on the market currently and i am continually impressed with the hyundai range. Honestly i feel they are on par if not better than toyotas. the only problem i think is that hyundai does not really have a corporate image. Like for example if you see a mazda from a distance, you'll defintely know that its a mazda and nothing else. same with nissans, toyotas and lexus'. but with hyundai, you don't really see a theme that is applied consistently to all their vehicles. You see a hyundai on the road, and your left wondering whether its an accord (sonata), or a toureg (santa fe). You can't tell immediately that its a hyundai without looking at the badge. so even though they might make great, reliable quality vehicles, they must at least have a corporate face so that people can distinguish hyundais from other brands.

Paul, don't take my word for it, didn't Hyundai knock of Lexus for highest customer satisfaction ranking in the USA for 2006? No easy feat! I agree that only 5 or 6 years ago, Hyundai were very ordinary in every respect, particularly for vehicle security (Early Excels was the No 1 vehicle of choice for beginner car thieves in Qld) but the quality of their cars has improved substantially with recent model releases. Check with your friends and see if the cars they complain of are less than a few years old. I'd suggest not. I'd also suggest walking into a show room and taking one for a test drive. I did and I was blown away, particularly after having just walked out of test drives in a Toyota, Honda and Nissan. They've certainly got balls for trying to break into the sports car market with this Tiburon. I do acknowledge however that consistency over time is the true test of a vehicle brand.

I dont know Paul, they topped the US quality survey this year and are consistently high in customer satisfaction surveys, apparently they are pretty solid if not a little crude. But how exactly from that one picture do we conclude this car is targeting the 350z or the GTR?

I think they are improving very quickly but its way to early to say they are matching the japs, way to early. From what Ive heard from many friends they have had nothing but problems with their Hyundais, congrats they are finally bringing out a Tiburon with grunt... and congrats they are building supertankers which has little to do with a car... but they are a long way off having any cred for mine. Areas still needing improvement are quality and reliability.

Thats exactly right, i think in the next ten years they will be on par in every respect with the Japanese, and with the new tiburon and V8 genesis coming out soon, plus the possibility of a luxury brand (e.g. Lexus for Toyota) the Koreans are not looking back
