2010 Mazda2 facelift revealed in official press release
October 11, 2009 by George Skentzos
Mazda has inadvertently unveiled its facelifted new generation Mazda2 in an official press release announcing the commencement of production at the brand’s Thailand plant.
While the original Mazda2 premiered the brand’s funky new design direction, subsequent updates to the remainder of the Mazda model line-up featured the now trademark ’smiley grille’ – notably absent from the Mazda2.
Now it has been confirmed that a refreshed Mazda2 will incorporate the happy front end treatment, bringing it in line with the rest of the range which most recently includes the Mazda3.
The upper grille and foglight surrounds have also been refreshed, becoming larger and more integrated with the overall design.

Is the rear the same?
Seems to integrate the smile grille pretty well, a good looking little car. I still cant get used to the Mazda 3 though
I like the smilie face on this car, it suits everything but the 3.
Coming to Oz?
Now made in Thailand, maybe sell it for less?
LOL yeah i’m sure
such a happy car…
Looks way better than the new Mazda 3. Really needs an MPS version…
they were thinking about the MPS…..

Will the sedan verion be released in australia any time soon??? Anyone have any insight?
Mazda has lost it. The smily face looks so off on this car and looks so tachy!
i think it looks better
I like it alot. Much better than the 3.
The challenge for Mazda is to retain their very high quality and not let it slip as honda has with its civics and accords.
One of the main reasons for sticking with Mazda has been its superior build quality that lifted it above the hyundais and hondas and other toyota clones.
Mazda quality is nothing special. The Euro Accord has better quality and is built just as good if not better than the Mazda 6.
The Thailand built Civics have also been very good in quality. But you must remember that in terms of world wide sales Mazda is quite the minnow.I wonder how their quality would go if there was a ramp up in world wide sales?
Just a reminder that the Accord won the 2009 Wheels car of the year and there wasn’t any complaint about quality. The V6 Accord won the Drive car of the year and also no complaints about quality and build.
Quality is the least of Mazda’s concern with their current crop of smiling cars.Infact the Mazda 3 seems to already be looking a little dated.
Accord Euro is built in Japan, not Thailand…
mazdaman, why you honda have quality with thai built cars? I have current gen civic and I don’t see how the quality is inferior to mazda 3. the fit and finish and the reliabilty have all being very good, being thai built was a concern when I bought the car, but I can honestly say I can’t find any diference in build quality to jap build ones.
the only difference between a Thai built car and Jap built car of the same make, is the nationality of the people building them. All the machinery is the same, all the materials are the same, difference is, labour in Thailand is cheaper and so are the running costs of the factory.
correct – actaully the quality should be better because for some reason the people in cheap labour countries tend to work harder
So how does Honda justify charging so much for their cars considering the FTA with Thailand? They haven’t given an explanation for this so i doubt they can.
People go on about Mazda’s design direction but IMO the CRV looks like a mutated frog on LSD and the Civic is just plain ordinary bordering on ugly!
The 2 is one of the better looking compact cars around and the update is well executed.
I agree CRV is rather weird looking, but i prefer the Civic’s design to the giant smiley face of the mazda 3. I think of the current generation Mazda, only the 6 and MX5 is good looking, 2 is funky but somehow looks cheap next to Fiesta.
In Australia, the Honda range is mostly sourced from Thailand. Why is it that Honda NZ can offer a similar range of vehicles (made in Japan) for a comparable price. This just doesn’t make sense.
All the vehicles in the Mazda range should now have the smiley face. So from a distance, a Mazda is instantly recognisable. Just like with BMW and their kidney grille.
Can’t wait for the RX7 to come back (if it ever does). It should look good.

Is your reply meant for the other thread?
Any news if this is coming here?
For mine the 2 needs a traditional fuel-gauge, hate these electronic bar types.
Needs a 5 speed auto and a trip computer like the Jizz has
yeah because of the reduction in Tariffs and the strong Aussie Dollar. Not such a genius now are you?
