Audi Q3 concept showcases integrated electric longboard

An Audi Q3 has been showcased with what is likely one of the more unique concept features at this week’s Beijing motor show - an electric longboard hidden away in the rear bumper.

Constructed from carbon-fibre and aluminium, the longboard charges automatically when it is neatly stowed away in the Q3’s rear bumper. Audi claims the battery is good for more than 12 kilometres and a top speed of 30 km/h.

Dubbed the Audi Q3 “connected mobility concept”, the company says the car’s infotainment system uses real-time traffic data to determine whether the driver's destination will be reached quicker using the longboard. If so, the system will find the nearest parking lot and advise the driver to break out the longboard.

Reports say it can be utilised in three different configurations. As a scooter with the handlebars deployed and a smartphone attached to display directions, or as a longboard with the handlebars folded away and the speed controlled remotely.

Finally, for any light-duty hauling, the board can also be put into cargo mode. When it is, it can follow the owner around autonomously when paired with a smartphone.
