2017 Holden Colorado revealed in Brazil, Australian input significant

Chevrolet has today revealed its refreshed Brazilian-market S10 ute, which will form the basis for the 2017 Holden Colorado, expected to launch locally before the end of this year.

Changes to the model include a new exterior design, along with a refreshed interior.

At the front, new headlights with LED daytime running lights team with a split front grille that features chrome highlights.

The top specification vehicle pictured here also has new wheels and chrome highlights around its side and beltline.

The rear and side profiles remain largely unchanged from the current Colorado, but it's inside the cabin that the ute will feature the greatest amount of change both in Brazil and as the Australian-market 2017 Holden Colorado.

The revised cabin features a rugged feel with the inclusion of the latest MyLink infotainment system that measures 8.0 inches and features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Under the bonnet, the Colorado is expected to carry over the same 2.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 147kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Australian engine specifications are yet to be confirmed.

Key to the changes are improvements in aerodynamics and weight. The revised S10 features a 12 per cent reduction in aerodynamic drag.

Jeremy Tassone, Holden vehicle development manager, said that the new model features a huge amount of input from Australian engineers.

“Colorado customers use the vehicle for different purposes depending on the market,” said Mr. Tassone.

“Australian customers demand quality from their vehicle in every area, regardless of whether it’s being used as the weekday workhorse or for weekend surf trips.

“We’ve worked hard to make sure we have engineered greater refinement without losing any of Colorado’s tough characteristics, off-road capability and impressive towing capacity.”

As revealed earlier in the year, local engineers worked to establish a far improved suspension and steering system. Improvements to noise, vibration and handling mean that the Colorado should come closer to matching its competitive set.

These changes have helped push fuel consumption down for the S10 by five per cent and are expected to make the torquey diesel even more grunty off the line. Again, while Colorado's local specifications are yet to be confirmed, we would expect the vehicle to also feature the same fuel use reduction.

Peter Keley, Holden executive director of sales, said that the new Colorado will step the game forward for Holden.

“The Chevrolet Colorado revealed by our Brazilian colleagues is the result of ongoing work between Holden, Chevrolet Brazil and Chevrolet Thailand and a clear indication of where the Holden Colorado is heading,” Mr. Keley said.

“With significant local engineering, this vehicle will be the most refined Colorado ever while maintaining all of the capability of the current model. When combined with a new design that balances elegance and strength, it will perfectly bridge the gap between weekday workhorse and weekend explorer.

“It will also follow the lead set by Spark, Captiva and Insignia VXR, boasting advanced technology features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in a new Holden MyLink infotainment system.”

Positive feedback from the 2016 Bangkok motor show, the motor show where Chevrolet revealed the Colorado Xtreme show truck, means that when the Colorado lands locally, around 70 per cent of the show car's accessories will be available for purchase.

Some of these include a safari bar, sports bar and different alloy wheels.

What do you think of the 2017 Holden Colorado? Will the new design and revisions to the ride and handling be enough to bring it back up the commercial vehicle ladder?
