Suzuki Swift plug-in hybrid & SX4-FCV at Tokyo Motor Show
Suzuki will debut at least two environmentally friendly concept cars at this months Tokyo Motor Show. At this stage it is believed a plug-in hybrid version of the Swift five-door hatch back will be debuted along side a hydrogen-powered version of the SX4.
With Suzuki new to plug-in hybrid technology it is believed the engineering beneath Swift will be a series hybrid system, similar to that used in Chevrolet’s Volt, which Suzuki say should provide 20 kilometres of pure-electric travel.
The Swift will be propelled exclusively by an electric motor but will also feature a small petrol engine for charging batteries whilst on the go.
Accompanying Swift at the Suzuki stand will be a hydrogen-powered version of the SX4, known as the SX4-FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle).
The SX4-FCV will utilise fuel-cell provided by General Motors combined with a tank and capacitor engineering in-house at Suzuki.
Suzuki aims to have a production version of the SX4-FCV ready to go within the next few years though this model will most likely be restricted to fleet use only.
