2017 Mini Countryman John Cooper Works spied testing
Our spy photographers have snapped the next-generation Mini Countryman John Cooper Works testing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
The new Mini Countryman SUV is based on BMW's front- and all-wheel drive UKL architecture that not only underpins the latest generation of Mini models, but also the BMW X1 and 2 Series Active Tourer.
To improve interior space and comfort, the second-generation Countryman will likely grow to around 4.4 metres in length, up around 300mm on today's car.
Despite the new platform, the second-generation Countryman will feature evolutionary styling. Compared to less powerful variants of the next-gen Countryman, one of which was photographed in January during cold weather testing, the JCW version features revised air intakes in the front bumper, larger wheels, an improved braking package, deeper side sills, and a rear diffuser-style element.
Under the bonnet, the new Countryman JCW will feature the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine used in the JCW hatch and convertible. In those models, the 2.0-litre turbo develops 170kW of power and 320Nm of torque.
The new Mini Countryman is widely tipped to make its debut at the 2016 Paris motor show, which takes place at the beginning of October.
