Renault LCV range gain X-Track extras, Master adds 4×4 – UPDATE

The new Renault X-Track pack includes a limited-slip differential, raised suspension for better ground clearance, underbody protection and all-weather tyres.

The Renault Kangoo small van, Renault Trafic mid-size van and Renault Master large van ranges have been updated with X-Track extras.

The X-Track pack is said to provide "even higher traction performance for intensive use in particularly challenging conditions", and the French maker says the additional extras extends the capability of the company's Grip Xtend traction control system (fitted to Kangoo FWD, Trafic FWD and Master FWD and RWD models) that is designed to help drivers counter slippery terrain despite a lack of all-wheel drive.

Lyndon Healy, Renault Australia model line manager for light commercial vehicles, said buyers with specific needs could be drawn to the new X-Track versions.

“Compared with a standard transmission, the new Renault X-Track 4x2 technology delivers superior mobility on difficult terrain, in snow, unsealed surfaces and on poor quality roads.

“The Renault X-Track 4x2 is an alternative to four-wheel drive when off-road capability is not required. It delivers exceptional performance on poor roads and in difficult conditions. The option is available on Kangoo, Trafic and Master from the factory and we plan to evaluate the systems locally to determine their suitability for the Australian market,” Lyndon said.

But for buyers who need more serious off-road ability, the Master could soon be offered with a 4x4 option, allowing drivers to remain in 4x2 mode until 4x4 is required. The brand has confirmed that 4x4 will be offered on the Master cab-chassis single- and dual-cab variants, and rear-drive van derivatives, too.

“Renault Australia will carry out specific market evaluation on the Master 4x4 in the near future to determine its suitability for our driving conditions,” Lyndon said.

“There is a large market for 4x4 dual-cabs in Australia and with our high payload and up to seven-seat capacity, a Master 4x4 could be a handy addition to the range,” he said.
