Datsun Redi-Go, Fiat Mobi SUVs revealed for emerging markets

At the same time, Italian car maker Fiat has revealed a new offering with the same focus on ‘emerging’ markets, dubbed Mobi.

Both models will play in the same compact SUV segment as Renault’s recent Kwid, which in fact uses the same CMF-A (Common Module Family) platform that underpins the new Datsun.

Power in the Redi-Go will also be supplied by the same 0.8-litre three-cylinder engine available with the Kwid, which offers a tiny 40kW and 74Nm of torque.

The launch of the Redi-Go follows the 2013 unveiling of the Go hatch, which was later joined by the longer Go+, the light Mi-Do hatch and the On-Do sedan.

The Redi-Go’s styling marks a step forward for the brand, after its look was first previewed in early 2014.

Fiat’s new Mobi, like the Datsun, will be offered in emerging markets that include India (where it will be built) and Brazil.

Details of the new model’s architecture have not been revealed, although it is likely that a version of the Panda 4x4’s platform is in play.

The Mobi is powered by a flex-fuel 1.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 54kW and 93Nm on petrol, and 56kW/97Nm on ethanol.

Australia

Neither model is expected to be offered in Australia, where stricter safety regulations would preclude either vehicle from sale.
