hmm…key omissions from the list, where are Audi and Alfa Romeo?

  2. Tim says:

Skoda is such a failure in Oz market.

    • ManualsOnly says:

Skoda is successfull in Europe because of its price. Skoda needs to drop their prices by about $2000 to give Australian buyers the same price advantage as our European friends. Another example of European importers overcharging Australians i.e. Metallic paint from one UK car brand is 535 pounds(inc. VAT) in the UK but $1730 in Oz, ripped off..(535 pounds is $1070 approx)

Thats because Aussies know Skodas are Eurotrash mine has spent more time in the shop getting fixed than on the road. Buy Japanese instead.

      • Škoda Freak says:

CN, you seem to keep pretty quiet about all the time your Skoda spends in the shop. Did a bit of Google searching to see what your problems are but I couldn’t find anything. Do you actually own a Skoda or are you just bashing them?!?

        • Ezz says:

Are the Skodas still having fly-wheel failures resulting in the car catching fire? Yeah I know this relates to a previous model, but tbh your ambush marketing of Skoda is getting very tiring to read. If they were as good as you say they are I’m sure us slow Aussies will realise that and buy them in droves. If only they didn’t look so bland and boring though…

        • Captain Nemo says:

          Skoda freak
Oh i actually own one but i will be trading it in on a 3 legged donkey or something like that soon. And whats with the keep pretty quiet comment i don’t spend all day on the net like you waiting to jump on people who don’t love the same make of car as you.

          • Tomas79 says:

You might not spend all day on the net, but you still spend way too much time to posting offensive and unsubstantiated comments on the net, such as the one above!!

          • Chill out says:

            Tomas79 – pot meet kettle.

  3. Mark says:

Wow, sad, Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge can’t even manage a 1% market share between them. Their market share in 1997 was higher than it is today!! And that was back before the Dodge brand. FINALLY good to see Honda back above 5% share, although that’s really nothing compared to the 12% + they hold in the US.

    • Honda fan says:

Agree, good to see Honda back above 5%. I don’t understand why they don’t do as well in Australia compared to how they do internationally. They are really under-rated in Australia, and Mazda is over-rated here. In the US, Mazda have less than 3% share for passenger car sales. I know some of you will say it’s due to Honda’s pricing, but internationally they are priced about the same as here (relative to other brands). So why do Australians see Honda differently compared to the rest of the world?

  4. Shak says:

I cant believe A-M actually sold 10 cars, that must be a very healthy profit for their Australian operations.

  5. Will says:

    Captain Nemo

The Skoda is not a Holden and thus warranty claims are very few, and unlike a Holden the machine will spend a long time functioning reliably without fault, unlike a H…… I should know, I own one and it has been a very satisfying experience. I suggest you stay with what you name implies you are good at; sinking submarines.

    Tim

Volkswagen Group entered the Australian market with open eyes. The motoring press is partisan. It is acknowledged that the brand will take some time to establish itself. Sales are consistent. Entering the market in a depressed market is actually a good way of ensuing a brands longevity. The rest of the world acknowledges the build quality of Skoda and as per usual it will take Australia a few years to wake up.

    • toxic_horse says:

Blind brand loyalty makes you look like a idiot will.

      • Tomas79 says:

        Speaking of blind loyalty,
Which one of the Falcadores do you support toxic_horse?
Unlike Skoda they they exist only cause of blind loyalist such as yourself!!
        They flopped everywhere else!!

        • Martin says:

          Too true.

          • toxic_horse says:

I don’t support either but i would rater either than a overpriced VW or Skoda homomobile.

          • Tomas79 says:

They are overpriced, to keep the locals in business!!!
And as for SKODA being Homomobile??
And you would prefer cars that come in tasteless G&L Mardigra colours, and or come in Dame Edna trims (AKA HSV VE2)!!

    • Captain Nemo says:

      Will

Whats Holden got to do with Skoda??
But i’m guessing your one of those people that just have to bring your hate of Holdens into any story. There could be a story CA about the Sudanese wanting to start a car industry and you would bring usual anti Holden into it. And if you want to start with the insults may i suggest you go no YouTube not CA

    • Tim says:

Its still a failure in the Australian market. Selling less than Dodge or Proton must say something. Ofcourse, they look like models from the 90’s.

      • Golfschwein says:

Those funny little jap Tiaras and Coronas hardly sold up a storm during the sixties. Same thing.

        • Carfanatic says:

I remember the days everyone bagged Hyundai and look how far they have come. Keepp bagging Skoda and those of you who do, will one day eat your words. Keep up the marketing VAG, it will pay off in the end.

  6. Robin Graves says:

More Great Walls sold than Jeep and Land Rover – hahahahahaha thats hilarious! When is Hyundai going to bring out a ute – that will be good competition for the overpriced Toyotas, unreliable Nissans and ugly Mitsubishis. BT50 is the only decent one (and the Ford clone whatever its called)

  7. Alex says:

WOW, Fiat is selling depressingly badly- atleast i gave them one extra sale :)

  8. Pops says:

Enough with the SKODA plugging already… For a make than makes up less than 1% of the market there is way too much talk of them on this website!

I am starting to think there are 3 SKODA marketing employees who work fulltime writing posts on this & other motoring websites.

Happy for you to appreciate your motor of choice but don’t expect us all to clamour after them as well.

    • Simon says:

Who cares if they discuss Skoda? By the same logic there are posters receiving kick-backs from all major manufacturers. If you don’t like comments then you sure are at the wrong URL!
I’m happy for anyone to add constructive comments, irrespective of brand and/or bias. If you feel people expect you to clamor after a particular make you might want to think about why you are so threatened or peeved.
I love CA, they too get accused of being bought. Nothing new there!
Have a look at the car review pages and you might realize they actually constitute what could be well summed up as “Car Advice”. Ironic that!

CA – keep up the good work, it’s clear you have a loyal following!

    • whatefa says:

      Skoda this Skoda that *yawn*
      Couldn’t agree more Pops

  9. PogO says:

You’ll find there’s a few VW/Audi fans around with a soft spot for Skoda’s. After all, platforms and drive trains are shared amongst other things between the VAG companies. With those 2 it’s considerately more than 1% (without adding the 9 Bentley/Lamborghini sales :) .

  10. Andrew says:

I have owned a Skoda Octavia Diesel DSG for 15 months now, it cost $35K. It has done 27000km and hasn’t missed a beat, nearly all around town driving and averaging 6.1 litres/100km. After 15 months I still look forward to getting behind the wheel. Previously owned 2 prado’s the last being a petrol grande in the current model, it cost $70K and averaged 13.5 litres/100km and overall was a pretty good car, but in 30 years of driving so far, the Skoda is the best car I have owned. Would buy another tomorrow.

  11. Baji says:

I had a look at a few Skoda’s when they had a promotional thing going on in a shopping center. Build quality was quite good. Its just a pity they look so damn boring.

Glad to see mazda taking back 4th from Hyundai. Almost a 2000 unit jump from last months sales. good job.

  12. Glen says:

260 sales from Great Wall??? Just proves that there is many a fool in this country that cant spot the difference between value and cheap & nasty.

    • toxic_horse says:

No it actually show a lot of people want a good value work truck to abuse. that does not cost 40 grand

  13. Carfanatic says:

and if VAG add Suzuki to their stable, they will have a healthy market share in this country in which to build on.
