Harvey, Most people who choose a Ford/Commodore over a Mazda 6 or other FWD offering, is because they have a need to tow. Boats, caravans & kids. IMHO a FWD Mondeo “Falcon” would hand all this business from Ford directly to Holden. Maybe the Territory would sell more… maybe.

I recon Ford will badge the Mondeo as a Falcon within 2 years. The Mondeo is probably a better car anyway and based on the fact that the majority of Drivers indeed the Public have little Knowledge of what is under the bonnet most would not know or indeed care. The Mondeo Wagon has just been released so Ford would not need to develope a Wagon. Most owners again don’t know the difference between Front and rear wheel drive and certainly don’t drive “10/10ths” as testers assume they do. It is also a fact that over 70% of cars on the road are front wheel drive so the majority of customers are already front drivers.

Thats europe, they dont have the heat of Australia. A 4WD magazine had problems with the Discovery 3 here because the electronics died from the excessive heat. The Landcruiser soldiered on. Different climates, different countries different sides of the planet, you cant compare Australia to the UK.

The Scores say that the AWD Superb is significantly better handling then the Falcon, not to mention even the FWD Accord, and Maximas!!

The aurion was behind the Calais in terms of performance even before the new DI V6 engines, it doesnt have a chance

and the accord looks like it has downs

I suggest the Falcon and Superb will be at the top, followed by he Calais.

To an extent, yes, I am a little closed minded about the Falcon. But until it looks visually pleasing inside and out to me, I can’t really take it seriously.

Economically-speaking, you may be spot on. Unfortunately not everyone can work in the services or resources industries. If many lose their incomes from manufacturing, then it’ll likely have onflowing economic and social effects. Protectionist-minded? Maybe, but i think more countries are starting to realise that being so open isn’t necessarily the best way..
