Chrysler suspends Jeep production over parts shortage

By Matt Brogan |

Due to an unforeseen parts supply shortage Chrysler has been forced to suspend the production of several of its Jeep models.

Chrysler did not mention which part or supplier had caused the shutdown, instead saying the “shutdown is due to the continued stress in the automotive supply chain”.

Models affected by the suspension in production include Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited models, Jeep Patriot, Jeep Compass and Dodge Nitro.

The plant at the centre of the issue, Toledo Supplier Park – located in Toledo, Ohio – will be idled from next week.

Australian Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge outlets are not affected by the shutdown.

I thought they would have shutdown Jeep production over a unforeseen (to Chrysler management) customer shortage.

I agree, Less landfill is a good thing Tom. Was the model shown designed in the late 70′s

This is just the start. Many of Chrysler’s burnt former suppliers are fearful of supplying Fiatsler because they are worried about ever getting paid. Watch this space.

The supply shortage is a dispute between Daimler about some contractual details which were posted by C/A a few months back.

Not about suppliers who have any concerns. Basically it’s a Mexican standoff between daimler who claims are owed money under the previous arrangement and Chrysler/Fiat who are threatening legal action against daimler contractual breaches.

    It’s messy!!!
