A wealthy European customer has commissioned a one-off super-sized six-door limousine, dubbed the Audi A8L Extended, which the company has developed over the last year.

The A8L Extended measures 6.36 metres in length and rides on a wheelbase of 4.22 metres — both figures are up 1.09m on the run-of-the-mill long-wheelbase A8. Thanks to its primarily aluminium construction, the A8L Extended tips the scales at 2418 kilograms, or around 400kg more than a standard A8L.

In order to incorporate all six doors and a level of luxury not seen before on an A8, Audi extended the car’s length with extruded aluminium extensions for the side sills and centre tunnel.

With the help of a double rear bulkhead between the passenger cell and boot, as well as extra aluminium cross braces and profile tubes for the roof, Audi claims that the A8L Extended’s torsional and flexural rigidity is “almost on a par” with the regular A8L.

To ensure that the roof and window lines look straight and professional, everything from the A-pillar back is either bespoke or significantly modified in some way.

On the inside, the A8L Extended features six forward facing electronically adjustable seats upholstered in beige Valcona leather.

Separating the seats in the second and third rows is a large centre console, which, at the rear, incorporates a refrigerated storage area and free-standing entertainment unit.

Overhead, the stretched roof includes large 2.4 metre long glass panel with sun blinds for each row.

While we were expecting the A8L Extended to motivated by either a V8 or W12 engine, under the bonnet there’s the company’s relatively modest turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 hooked up to an eight-speed automatic and a full-time all-wheel drive system.

With 228kW of power and 440Nm of torque on hand, the six-door A8 is said to be able to run from 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. The A8L Extended rides on 15-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels, with stopping power provided by the same braking package that’s used in the S8.
