Skoda teases new apprentice-built coupe concept

Skoda has released a teaser photo of a compact coupe created by trainees at the Czech car maker’s Vocational School. The concept is the third in a line of apprentice-made cars and is set to be unveiled in May.

Operating under the working title of ‘Skoda Apprentice Car III’, the coupe has been in the works for around seven months and was brought to life by 27 young men and women with support offered by instructors at Skoda headquarters in Mlada Boleslav.

Few details are known about the soon-to-be-unveiled concept, however, early signs point to it being based on the Rapid.

It’s also reported that the two-door coupe will be finished off in two-tone red and black and it can be expected to feature a number of other aesthetic flourishes, just like its predecessors.

The latest project follows 2014’s Citijet concept, which was essentially a topless version of the Citigo, and last year’s Funstar concept (pictured above), a ute concept based off the Fabia.

Skoda’s Vocational School has been in operation since 1927 and has been offering students training programs in a number of technical subjects ever since. Currently, more than 900 apprentices are enrolled in 14 full-time courses.
