2008 Mazda6 News
Update: Click here for details of the new Mazda6
WorldCarFans have released artist renderings of the next generation Mazda6. Based on spyshots of the car (which have been slowly hitting the internet in the last few months), the artist impression show the Mazda 6 still sharing some familiar characteristics to the current model, with a sporty nose and an instantly recognizable Mazda front.
Compared to the current 6, the new Zoom-Zoom-Zoom is reported to be several inches longer and wider. Also there is talk of a 3.5-litre V6 (~180kW) for the American and European market, no news for Australia yet.
Of course if a 3.5-litre variant comes about, there is a good chance the next generation Mazda6 MPS will be more powerful than the current 2.3-litre turbo, or maybe Mazda will follow Subaru’s path with the Liberty and keep the 2.3-litre turbo alongside the V6.
The new Mazda6 is based on Ford’s new Mondeo sedan and it will be interesting to compare the two cars. The new generation Mazda 6 will join the new Mazda2 as well as the next-gen Mazda3 in Mazda’s model renewal plan set to occur in the next 18-24 months.
For the rest of the photos and some spyshots, be sure to head over to WorldCarFans.

New 6 - about time.
I know we only account for 2% of Mazda’s international sales but can we PLEASE have the 3.5l V6, please. The current 6 is a great car but needs more punch.
Styling is good too, be interesting to see what comes of it.

I think it will be a great car once its available. I don’t know about the 3.5-litre V6 though, something tells me, Mazda will leave Australia out for that one, afterall, only Americans need more power, we are happy with the 2.3-litre engine… right?

Lol people have a go at Camrys because they are Toyota in terms of looks… but this image provided (however accurate or not) looks exactly the same as the previous generation Camry. Double standards!

People have a go at the 5th and 6th Generation Camrys because they are plain ugly, and although the image above may be accurate or not (most likely not), it doesn’t look anything like the 5th Gen Camry.
Even if the new Mazda 6 looked like the Camry, it would be a much more desired car to drive.

Paul…
can you yank the Toyota chain any god damn harder!?
It’s not a REAL image for a start! so your comment is irelevant…you can comment on similar looks to camry when the REAL car is released.
As Myke says, i’d put my bets on the new 6 driving far better than a camry…

I meant to say that even if the Mazda 6 looks like the Camry, the MAZDA would be a much more desired car to drive.

Those complaining about no V6 option… drive the turbo. I had a naturally aspirated lux sport hatch for four years and have replaced it with an MPS. I complained about the lack of a V6 but am more than happy with the turbo, direct injection. It is smoother, quieter and just a wee bit quicker
A bonus is great traction and impressive torsional rigidity. I just wish the MPS was available from the outset.

WE NEED THE 3.5 in OZ. I currently own the luxury sport hatch, great car it has everything except the ZOOM ZOOM..
The only ZOOM model is the MPS nice but its no hatchback which are the model to have, in my opinion…
C’mon Mazda OZ give us the 3.5 model..

I would be very interested if it had the V6, otherwise I don’t think I would bother. A friend of mine test drove the current 2.3l and said it was lacking in Zoom.

People,
As a Mazda carsalesman i can assure you that the New Mazda6 when it goes on sale in FEBRUARY 2008 will set new records for Mazda. I have seen the car and the photos published do not do it justice. It will also be very competitively priced and start from $29990 + ORC. It will have a 2.5l 125Kw engine and the fuel economy will be nearly 10% better. My mail is the 3.7l V6 going in the new CX-9 MAY be the powerplant in the MPS6… It will be coupled to the AWD system that Mazda employs - the mind boggles

Apparently the 6 MPS has ceased production but will resume next year with the old shape MPS being sold alongside the new 6 for 12 more months.
My guess is the stoppage is to retool for a major interior upgrade which it would need to remain viable. I have sat in a Mondeo XR5 and it makes the MPS feel like a base model. What that means is at the moment you have to work hard to justify 10 thou more (than the Mondeo) for AWD and 1/2 sec to 100km/h faster. Interior is important to many MPS buyers like me who are looking for a bit of class. If 0-100 was the most important factor then I would be loking to something like a WRX.
I hope I am right because I love how the MPS drives but have always been left a little flat by its interior. I am ready to buy one but figure I will wait and see what the upgrade brings!
