Nissan teases new global compact car
October 1, 2009 by George Skentzos
Nissan has today released the first official images of its upcoming global compact car.
While no specific details have been released, it is almost certain that this model will find its way to Australia by the second quarter of 2010 together with more than 150 countries worldwide.
This new compact model will be manufactured by Nissan in Thailand and will qualify as the country’s first “Eco-car”.
The Thai governments Eco-car government policy is effective today and will help promote the development of energy efficient vehicles.

the Thai Gov has an eco policy, thats funny because our supposed advanced governmnet doesnt seem to have one in place. And they somehow expect our locals to invest in eco tech without any funding, SHAME!!!
so why are Australian taxpayers paying for the hybrid camry and four cylinder falcoon.
try googling Green Car Innovation Fund (GCIF)
I like the current Micra more. I know the Micra is a car that many, many people just think is the ugliest thing ever, but I think that from certain angles it looks really good. Yes, from other angles it looks horrid, but the fact is that it offers a much better drive than a lot of the other superminis (Yaris, Savvy, Rio, Barina) and it’s really cheap, so I like it.
This design, although much more agreeable than the current Micra, has just a couple of things that need changing. That’s when design annoys me the most – when it almost looks great. A car can be plain ugly and that’s fine, but it’s just irritating when it almost looks good. I’m mainly referring to the weird shape of the rear in the first picture.
The Micra is hideous. Looks like a London Cab
I actually like the London Cab aspects of the micra, but find the front of the car to be a bit of a lost cause.
More than just a hint of Renault in the styling can’t hurt it! But there is alot of cues from competitors. The front is slightly Mini-ish (or more specifically, the Mini copy in the video game Saints Row), the tailights are fro
the MY2010 Colt (the Euro facelift – it’s very nice and were not getting it, although Colts seem in run-out to me…), the rear window is Murano (a Nissan design cue) OR a MiTo! Toyota Aygo is in the side too!. But it’s time for a new Micra so bring it on! But Nissan Aus bring in a manual and the sports version please…
Looks like a bit of Toyota Yaris and Mazda 2.
I just feel this concept is not adventurous enough. Concept car is always more adventurous than real production car. But this concept doesn’t even look more advanced than mazda2 or fiesta, so how can the production car have some advantage to compete in exterior styling?
because unlike a concept or stylized sketches this is a true sketch meaning the production car will be this. i actually prefer the current model better though this reminds me of the clio
I’ve had a few of the first model Micras – and I think they were a great little car – tremendously driveable in a nimble small car sort of way, and very reliable. Not so sure about the current model, especially as it’s auto only.
If Nissan are to make the new Micra available in manual, and with improved safety (stability control) then it would definitely return to my small car shopping list.
This car will be made in INDIA
The current Micra looks like a circus clown car.Everytime I see one
on the road I almost expect it to stop and let out all the clowns!
This particular this new design however, looks
quite stylish.
nissan desperately need to do something quick if they want their 10% market share, and a great light(not micra) and fantastic small medium car(not tiida) will be a good start…
Agree with Fasthonda. Anything that replaces the current Micra can only help Nissan’s fortunes.
Anything that looks better then the Tiida is a good thing. That Renault influence is bad.
The images look good but lets wait for the car. anyone remember the initial images and mockups of the GM Volt? Looked like a cool low top gangsta car. The final car looks like a Camry.
nissan make ugly cars.. other then its top of the line ones! GT ext
