Holden Commodore SS V-Series Special Edition Sedan Sportwagon Ute

Special Editions seem to be the flavour of the month with Holden joining Honda, Toyota and Mazda with special editions announced today.

GM Holden is set to release two new special edition models to increase Commodore sales in two different segments.

SS V-Series Special Edition

Firstly the SS V-Series Special Edition sedan, Sportwagon and Ute will get Holden’s styling treatments with new aggressive twin nostril front fascia with unique lower splitter and twin letter-box hood scoops. SS-V special edition sedans will also get a decklid spoiler and chrome highlights.

SS V-Series Special Edition

The new Special Edition Commodores will be available in three colours – Phantom black, Red Hot and Voodoo blue and will cost the same as the standard SS V-Series models.

  • VE Ute SS V-Series Special Edition (man) $47,490 RRP
  • VE Commodore sedan SS V-Series Special Edition (man) $55,290 RRP
  • VE Sportwagon SS V-Series Special Edition (man) $57,290 RRP
  • Six-speed automatic transmission +$2,000 RRP

Ute fans will be delighted to know the SS V-Series Special Edition Ute will be unveiled at tomorrow’s Deni Ute Muster.

I suppose Holden have to get rid of those now redundant Pontiac front facias some how. Looks OK though.

  • Shak

They had to get rid of the excess pontiac stock somehow. But it doesnt look that bad. At least it gives these so called special editions some visual differentiation.

  • D

    What happened to the lion?

    • RdS

obviously the front of the car has a pontiac badge on it for the US. But thanks to the split grille and bonnet crease, for australia it would seem the Holden badge had no-where to stick on!

  • lazybones

Doesn’t look bad sitting next to a subaru more like. Whats next free pontiac facia in a pack of cornflakes!

  • BaseModelLaden

The American punter will cry for the cars they never had

  • fella

    Special edition pfhht ,
Headline should read holden selling the cars here that the americans did not want at infalted prices

    • Adorn4stars

      Oh how clueless you are.

  • Will

Do yourself a favour – buy an RS.

    • Martin

RS? Really narrows it down… there are a few brands that use the RS nameplate.

      • Will

Martin, for example…you can currently buy an Octavia RS. lift back for 32k on the road. That is a remarkable deal. Akin to a GTI but better made, it will offer you more rewards in every arena bar your not towing a yacht. However, any RS will do…

      • Deco

        He means Skoda….

But, Will, consider for a second, the Skoda Octavia RS isn’t a V8, isn’t <6secs 0-100km/h and that is what people want when they buy this car.

      • Camski

Martin does have a point, when I read RS I immediately thought of the current “RS” that Audi are selling which at the moment is the RS6 and previously the B7 RS4.

Funnily enough the spam word was AMG.

Front Pontiac fascia doesn’t look bad actually.

        • Martin

Yeah, exactly what I meant. A number of cars came to mind when I saw RS, just wondering which make specifically.

    • sc

Not really comparable cars? An SS would dust one
of those, whilst not looking like a late eighties
      VW.

  • KingCobra

Each to their own, but I would take a rear wheel drive car anyday over the FWD Skoda. But the Skoda would probably be a better buy than a VW, especially once the marque is a bit more established and resale value arnt so risky, anybody remember Seat?

    • Martin

I remember SEAT. A pitty, they have some really quite attractive cars these days.

  • Hi

If the Holden badge couldn’t fit, they should have stuck a V-Series badge in the “aggressive twin nostril front fascia with unique lower splitter”.

    • Deco

Lots of people debadge their cars anyway xD.

Holden is just lifting its customer service by saving them the trouble.

    • Davo

If Holden add a badge, they need to go through a new crash testing and validation process.

  • http://zuboora.com.au Mohamad is right when he

    “Holdens spare part sale”

    • Deco

      Well, yeh, that’s the idea….

      • Bucks

        I love how they don’t even mention it’s a Pontiac bumper/grille… XD
Not even try to market it as a commemorative edition to Australia exporting O.S.

  • Luv Local Industry

They look great, esp the wagon. If I had the pasos, I would be buying the wagon tomorrow.

Maybe Holden should a retro Lion badge on it like the old HK Premier.

  • Gibbo

Come to think of it, another advantage of this special edition, on top of their asthetic is that here is a series of commodores that wont be vandalised with chev badges (on the front atleast)

    • Devil’s Advocate

I wouldn’t call it vandalising the front end Gibbo. I would call it the owners are not delusional and accept the fact that Holden is a branch of an American car company and the car has a Chev engine that is shipped out here in a crate! ;-)

  • imugli

Where are da fully sik bruvvas supposed to put the Chevy badges to make it go faster???

    • DGS

      a place comes to mind……

  • DGS

Make it really special.Leave it unbadged. the owners and those who are interested in cars will know what it is, and those who don’t: who cares?

    • Shak

      Smart marketing i guess

    • http://Caradvice.com.au Baddass

Sorry, even the uneducated will still know it’s a Commodore.

The dog klled it , like they should have done with those left over parts; that thing looks grose. poor affort folden

  • Marcoz

This are just the left over pictures…thier is no way they would leave the pontiac badge on in australia….i mean how stupid would that be….sell a holden next to a holden but one with a pontiac badge….it aint going to happen..

i like the look anyhow…makes the ute look a lot more attractive to buy for me now..
if i could only just find that spare 50grand…I left it here somewhere…??? i know i did…?

  • peter bailey

fantastic front styling.SS should always have had a more distinctive look than what it has

  • Wheelnut

To those on here who say that this car – with the tacky Pontiac grille airdam and [fake] nostrils in the bonnet and reflectors etc looks good..

How does this car look any better than the VE-2 HSV..? Apart from the LED driving lights there ain’t much difference..

I personally am starting to get used to the look of the HSVs but have never liked the Pontiac G8

    • Bucks

      WN,

I drive past them every day in showrooms and It hasn’t gotten any better for me.
The Rear is just a design flop and the front waaaay to busy with vents and trapezoidal angles. I still haven’t seen any on the roads here in WA. I get the feeling a lot of buyers will be asking for VE-1 HSV’s. I would rather Flash tune one of those than get the VE2.

  • Wheelnut

Article: Special Editions seem to be the flavour of the month with Holden joining Honda, Toyota and Mazda with special editions announced today..

You can also add Ford to that list. Who have just announced a “Special Edition” G6 Falcon with has “extra” features including Leather interior and Alloys – features that you would expect a car like the G6 to have as standard.

    • D

Ford announced that a few weeks back

  • Karl

I wonder if the sedan still has a rear spoiler or a lip spoiler like the G8 had?

  • The Realist

What a cheap and nasty company.

Not only do they take public money every year, but they actually use their spare parts on their big mac mobiles to try and pass them off as “special editions”!

  • Shak

And your saying that other car companies dont.

  • Alex

Car looks tough, adds a little different elements to it. Maybe not for everyone but I’m sold

  • Jake02

I actually like it (especially coming from me). The new grille and lack of Holden badge gives it some attitude. I’d put a Pontiac badge on it though (just like an Astra which I’d put a Vauxhall badge :P ).

If I see any with Chevy badges I’ll personally blast the tool driving it (this special Pontiac version only). It’s not meant to be a Chevy just like all other Commodores.

When Will says to buy an Octavia RS, he means an accomplished sports sedan (as opposed to wanting a specific RWD V8 sedan) of which it is.

  • max no longer mad

I have seen two here in Berlin in the past few days. I have no idea why they are here. I tried to ask a lady parking one about it. “Nein speaking dah Ingleis”. Not sure if they are private imports or how on earth G8′s ended up in Germany. Be horribly expensive on fuel at AU2.30/litre.

  • SUPER H

THEY SHOULD HAVE USED THE GXP FRONT BUMPER THEY LOOK THE GOODS MUCH MORE STYLISH AND MEANER THEN THEY WOULD BE IN EVEN MORE DEMAND

  • http://bmw MelbourneStorm

    “Special Edition”

Nice way for Holden to clear left over USA market bits-n-pieces, and dump it onto us.

So thats the new name of dumping left overs, “special edition”

    lol

  • beniman292

i didnt know holden was bringing out a Pontiac SS-v or a Holden G8

  • Geasta

Well I just bought one and can’t wait to drive it. It looks mean from the front and gives it the status a SS V should have.

I won’t be puttin any badges on it as it speaks for its self.

    Let the lion roar!!

  • http://dunno Tony V

they have also changed the back spoiler to a lip you can now see who is coming from behind you. I think it will do ok but nothing much is special about it very simple looking car. it only comes in red, black, and electric blue.

  • John WA

I brought the new ute mid november and are really happy with

  • SWANK!!!

Finally an SS without the rear wing, I’ve been on the fence for month’s now trying to decide on a new car. The regular SS-V is nice, but it never did it for me… this version is gorgeous.

  • ABMPSV

Very pricey! $50,000 plus ORC!! Fuel consumption and depreciation is very bad on this car!

  • Blair

You guys in Australia are very lucky to be able to own a Commodore SS. I got one of the last Pontiac G8 GTs here in the states. But I do love the rear spoiler available on the regular SS over what we have. Overall thou this is a great car and I don’t have any regrets in buying it.
