Peugeot 308 RC Z Concept

CarAdvice will be in Germany for this years Frankfurt Motorshow in September, but before then, we are starting to get a taste of all the cars set to make an official debut.
Images of the Peugeot 308 RC Z Concept hit the net this morning and from what we can tell, the concept is a direct competitor to the new Audi TT, dare we say, it almost looks better than the TT!
Set to sit alongside the all-new Peugeot 308 3- and 5-door in Frankfurt, the 308 RC Z concept seems to have every bit of Peugeot in it, from the front the distinctive Peugeot look is present and from the rear, can anyone say 207 CC (which we will be driving in the next few weeks)?
Although it looks the part, the 308 RC Z can’t match its looks with performance. Powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine, the car manages 160kW of power and 300Nm of Torque (which is remarkable from a 1.6-litre mind you). It gets from 0-100 in 7 seconds flat (top speed of 235 km/h). Not exactly breathtaking. The Audi TT gets to a 100 in 6.6 seconds for the 2.0-litre turbo and 5.7 seconds for the 3.2-litre AWD.
The car uses aluminium, carbon fiber trim and a polycarbonate rear window to help keep the weight down. Altogether it has a tare mass of 1200kgs – the TT weighs 60kgs more for the 2.0-litre and 280kg more for the 3.2-litre AWD.
Expect a lot more exclusive shots of the Peugeot as well as all the other cars when we arrive in the fatherland come September.

Aw man, if this thing goes into production and is priced right, I think the TT will lose a lot of sales. This has so much more… class, without the robotic look of german cars
Note the interesting shape of the roof and rear window. Will look intriguing on the road.

if u took the door handles and mirrors off… and put on clear tail lights u wouldnt know what end was the front!

It certainly has an interesting look. Not a huge fan of the long boot.
The interior looks good, but are those metal studs on the chairs? I just had the thought, on a 40 degree day in shorts thats gonna burn. It will be the 308 mark of ownership.
I wonder how this will be priced against the TT?
Not a bad looking car at all, like a TT/350Z hybrid with a good dose of pug.
Agree with Troy, the front looks like a whale shark swimming for plankton and being a scuba diver I can vouch for that. Other thing that looks odd is rear side windows how they gell with front door glass… Looks smidgeon double dutch. Only minor criticism are those two points as simply = One Hot car!

Peugeot always build cars for a select group, so you can’t expect everyone to love it!
Aside from it’s beauty, the engine sounds like a ripper.
The PSA group are starting to offer some of the best performing and economical engines… if only they could do the same with their automatic gearboxes!
I think it looks stunning, the overall shape is spot on, but once again i cannot stand the new ’standard face’ on all Peugeots. It just looks silly… overkill if you will..
it has nice style… but suffers from the same problem as the audi tt ! nice style but bad proportion :( looks like a kangaroo! and the new “standard face” on peugeots looks like a rat on heat :s weird
Looks superb. Peugeot need this car for image alone!
Peugeot make some great looking cars – including the old 406, the current 407 range – and it seems this is no exception.
Typical Peugeot. Beautiful styling. Great cars to drive. All they need to do now is to upgrade the body of the 307. Been the same shape way to long.
