Bentley announces limited edition Continental GT Black Speed

$600,000 will buy you a one bedroom apartment near the city, or, if you like cars, you could spend it on a limited edition Bentley. Bentley has used this week's Australian Grand Prix to launch the 10 model limited edition called the Bentley Continental GT Black Speed.

Priced from $525,000 (plus on road costs), one of the main options buyers will consider is the $20,000 carbon ceramic brake package seen also on the manic Continental GT3-R. With these brakes selected, the drive away price sits north of $600,000.

Based on the Continental GT Speed, the Continental GT Black Speed has input from Bentley's bespoke Mulliner arm and is powered exclusively by the company's huge W12 12-cylinder petrol engine.

The bespoke model has been created solely for the Australia and New Zealand markets and takes a sportier edge over the regular Continental GT Speed, a move that Bentley Asia Pacific dealer sales manager David Simpson says comes from customer feedback.

“We talked to some of our customers last year at the Grand Prix about doing something bespoke for Australia, something unique for this market,” Simpson said.

“In the past we had the Concourse edition, where we blacked-out all the chrome and did a black finish for the first time on one of our cars, that was extremely popular in Australia. People want the aggressive version of the manufacturer car.

“I talked to the factory and said that I want to do something bespoke and something unique. I want to do a run of 10 cars just for our market. That's when we came to Black Speed.”

Local Bentley buyers take a sporty approach on styling, which led the way for some of the colour combinations featured on the car, including the manually painted coach lines along the side.

The red highlights inside the cabin look tasteful, while the engine spun aluminium fascia makes a bold statement not yet seen on a Bentley.

Other highlights include gloss black wheels, tinted tail lights and red side skirts. Watch lovers will appreciate the Breitling time piece specially commissioned with a red bezel just for this model.

The Continental GT Black Speed goes on sale this week and is likely to be sold out by the end of the week thanks to its exposure at the grand prix. If you head to the Australian Grand Prix this weekend you can see the model on display at Bentley's stand.
