TOXIC-HORSE I CAN NOT BELIEVE YOU WOULD COMPARE GW WITH NAVARA AND HILUX.
IT'S LIKE COMPARING DOG SH.T WITH MARS BAR, THEY DO LOOK A LIKE, A BIT. TRY THE TASTE TEST YOU'LL SOON NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE.
CHEERS

The first thing you notice about Great Walls website is the lack of a 'safety' information page. Twenty years ago it might have been the norm in car manufacturing to ignore safety and concentrate on price and gimmicks (leather in a ute?) but not now.

Well, I may not be ready to but a ute from GWM, but I have started buying stock in the company. You can mock all you want, but in a few years this company will be mainline and doing well. Does everyone forget so quickly how Honda and Yamaha started in motorcycles? China is here to stay and, with the domestic market support GWM will have, they have the backing to grow.

Yes, their cars lack things now. Give them 3 or 4 years and the cars and utes will be better and grabbing market share. They are already in 120 countries.

People should be objective about this and lets not turn this into a political debate, Mitshubishi Express Van is only one star safety rating and many other major brand's utes are 2-3stars. Do people complaint about it? Many people just want to see them fail coz prejudice of course, but they don't understand that China is up and coming, look around you almost everything is made in China. People should learn to live with that, we live in a global village now and trade is two way traffic. Australia's economy very much depends on Chinese demand for resouces and services, vice versa they need to export their products. Besides a ute is a ute how different could it be from a design perspctive, all the aircraft share many componets and design but you don't hear Airbus acuses Boeing for stealing.

Im not too sure that GWM paid anything to use others designs, I could be wrong.

The chinese car manufacturers have been dragged through court before for blatent copying/stealing of designs So Im more inclined to believe that these examples werent bought

We all know this.
However thse chinise companys don't do that, they copy the design of a existing model then build it.
I personally don't care if they copy the design of a existing car. specially for a work ute. just about everthing we buy these days is made in china. in a few years no one will think twice about chinise cars. just like korean cars of today.

After a couple of recent trips to China, and having dealt with Chinese manufacturers directly through business (not the automotive industry), I would say I would be surprised to find out that any fully chinese designed and manufactured products are of a genuinely good standard.

Its a culture where labour is cheap and cheap is king. I found that they really don't see quality in the same way the west does. To them its all about the gleam. If you can't see it (i.e. the quality of the steel in the chassis), then it doesn't count. I would recommend nobody touches one of these utes.

Wondering if someone at CA could take the time out to explain how all these companies like Great Wall Motors and Proton and such all end up with the (supposed) blatant copy of already existing vehicles??
It appears by many of the responses here that a lot of your reader base could learn a lot about how up and comming companies actually go out and buy the tooling (in some cases the complete factory) of old out dated models and then convert them into their own with minor styling changes...... Just a thought that you could run an automotive education section.

Also the 4x4 models are in a different class of vehicles.

The falcon and commy utes compete with the 4x2 jap models. They arent much good for getting off the black stuff either.

Keep it real "champ"

What next?? are you going to shock us with how bad the falcon and commy utes are at carrying 9 passengers legally like a people mover can??

Also if you read the history ford has always had the safer ute.

Read the safety scores as the years go by, the Falcon ute has always been first in safety with the Commodore second

Good luck with your Jap ute on roads champ!!
The only reason the japs build a ute for off road is because they are such a handfull to keep on the road.

Also good luck trying to pull a load with the gutless motors
