July 28, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

We have to ask the hard questions once in a while here at CarAdvice. We want to know if you would put your hard earned cash on a brand new Subaru Impreza WRX (propaganda video here).

Remember the car will only be available as a hatchback at launch (no sedan variant available in Australia for some time). Before you vote, remember, the new Lancer GSR (Galant Fortis – video here) is also landing soon:

So…

Would you buy the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX?

  1. TimSky says:

I will not but a WRX. I’ll wait for the 2008 STI, no matter how it will look – I love Subaru for it’s performance, not for the look.

  2. Benjamin Everton says:

It seems the survey results are quite indicative!

Counter in 10 votes from Subaru employees and the odds are really against Subbie!

  3. Blue Blood says:

The WRX has never really been a looker.

It is it’s performance is what sells it.

That’s why I suspect we are only getting the hatch and not the heffer sedan.

  4. Nick says:

the STI better be hot, ather wise they can put the wrx to sleep for good…id rather a liberty gt, a much nicer looking car imo

  5. Wayne says:

I prefer the Mitsubishi the WRX looks like a Daewoo Lanos or something(Ouch)

Subaru does not even have the loyalty to its loyal customers of over 10 years to release the sedan verson I mean come on how may WRX hatches were sold in OZ??

If they made me GEN-MGR for Subaru then the following is my game plan.

If Honda is the Japenese BWM then lets make Subaru the Japanese Audi lets think about it both have some fantastic performance models, both promote their AWD prowess, and both share great build quality.
But sadly only one makes fantastic looking cars and I will leave that to the reader to guess(No Prize though)

At least that was my dream for Subaru but then again one of my fav songs is “I beleive I can Fly”

How long will Subaru let me be the optimist?? not much longer if at all!

  6. Wayne says:

PS Does anyone else think that the Lancer GSR looks like a mini Honda Accord Euro in the above pic imagine the Diamonds as Honda ‘H’ or is it just me??

  7. David says:

The WRX has grown into the ugly duckling…

    I would rather a Mazda MPS 3 or 6

  8. Stu says:

It’s okay i reckon – i certainly dont think it looks any worse than the mazda 3 mps or ford focus – they are fairly plain i reckon, if the performance matches the previous one and given subaru reliability is pretty good i reckon it’l be okay

  9. George says:

As a hot hatch its great. But the WRX never should have fallen into this market.

  10. Parso says:

Subaru has blown it yet again. A boring ugly and underperforming mechanical package offers little reason to continue purchasing anything in the impreza lineup. Will the STI be any better – yeah right

Having had two “performance” WRX’s in the past I will certainly not be purchasing another one. Its Mitsubishi from here on in.
Luckily there is still some hope in the form of the Liberty GT but forget the rest.

  11. Brad says:

Subaru are you mad this piece of poo is a joke.
With the awsome looking Evo on the way Mitsy might just make it back in the black.

  12. Brad says:

I think the Nissan 350Z is the best car by far, shits all over the WRX

  13. Parso says:

I must say the 350Z is a work of art

  14. noel says:

hi go back to the original formula. that worked ok
    noel

  15. My STi says:

I have owned 98 WRX second hand and drove 75,000km and loved every moment. So much so bought new STI in 2002,again in 2004, and changed again….currenty have 2007 STi.

You guys have to be eFin stupid to think that our loyalty can be continually abused by expecting loyalty for an appalling looking 2008 car. Yes there is performance no question, but owners should be allowed to buy a car that looks good ………even a high performer with huge reputation.

Prefer you not to release the new model until you get one that looks the part………….I am sure you will lose the strong support you used to have.

How bad would Petter and Chris look in this wank?????

  16. eeeewwwwwww. A hatchback? This is bullshit!!!! Hatchbacks are for kids!!! Let see…Subaru owned the market. Dominated the market for a decade or more. NO MORE. The new EVO looks like a real car and has more to offer. I’ll will hold on to my 02 BUGEYE until I can get my hands on an EVO 10. This is brand suicide for sure…I know no one who likes this new body style. First the super ugly front end of the 06-07 Imprezas and now this huge mistake. Who’s running that JOKE of a car company anyway…George Bush?

  17. Neddy Smith says:

All I can say is “What The F….” is Subaru doing – they need to sack the design team – it looks like a BMW 1 series and a Daewoo Lanos had a baby and that was the result – BORING –

I would rather by a VW GT and am certainly thinking serious or European.

  18. Leckraz says:

I drive a wrx 2004 sti. I love the wrx..it is a cult. In 2008 they put out a new model which is hatchback. Get fcked..i ain’t gonna buy this one. Probably i will shift to evolution. As lots of people said they need to sack their designer teams. The sedan Wrx, we will alaways miss you…
