Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG to Appear in Gran Turismo 5

September 24, 2009 by George Skentzos

With the video game industry easily surpassing the film industry as a multi-billion dollar entertainment juggernaut, car companies are quickly embracing their roles in the virtual world with Mercedes-Benz today highlighting the role of its new SLS AMG in the upcoming Gran Turismo sequel.

With the official release of Gran Turismo 5 just around the corner, fans can look forward to taking control of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in the most lifelike way possible – second only to being behind the wheel of the car itself, obviously.

The game will allow drivers to partake in thrilling high speed races on a variety of different race tracks, including the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, without consequence while competing against other vehicles from the super sports car segment.

The modern interpretation of the legendary gullwing uses a 6.3-litre V8 engine with a maximum power of 420kW connected to a 7-speed double clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration, and sports suspension with aluminium double wishbone axles.

Polyphony Digital, the company behind the Gran Turismo franchise, has spent countless hours making the car’s drive as well as they look.

Would be a good gig developing for GT.. You would know about a lot of cars before the rest of the world. There’s no way they just ‘add’ them in, is there?

Hope they release a proper steering wheel for the game, played Prologue with a controller the other day at a buddy’s place and it just felt so lifeless. Other than that it was definitely a car junkie’s heaven.

Ive heard that there is going to be some pretty well known aussie race cars in this aswell, like Dick Johnsons True Blu Xd and Peter Brocks A9X Torana. Is this true?
