Honda airbag recall extends to Legend: More Civic and Jazz models join the list

Honda Australia’s ongoing recall of models equipped with controversially faulty Takata airbags has grown again, with a further 71,856 vehicles added this week.

The latest additions include more variants of the previously recalled Civic and Jazz, this time affecting an as-yet unspecified number of vehicles in the 2006-11 Civic and 2012 Jazz lines.

The large Legend sedan has also joined the list, with an unspecified number of vehicles built between 2007 and 2012 recalled.

The Takata recall, the largest automotive recall in history, centres on the potential for metal fragments to pass through the airbag at the moment of deployment. It has affected more than 53 million vehicles worldwide.

Brands caught up in the controversy, shown to have been caused by supplier Takata, include Honda, Nissan,Toyota, BMW, Chrysler, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz and Subaru.

To check if your vehicle is affected, have your VIN ready (usually found on a plate inside the engine bay or against the pillar of the driver’s door) and visit http://www.honda.com.au/recall.html.
