2019 Ford Bronco rendered:: get a load of this

Speculation is rife that the legendary Ford Bronco is poised for a comeback before 2020, giving the Blue Oval a rival to the next-generation Jeep Wrangler.

When it comes to under-utilised cult classics, the Bronco badge has to be up there. And given today’s predilection for SUVs of all stripes, a rebirth should surely satisfy the hearts of buyers and the brains of bean-counters alike.

But what might a 2019 Ford Bronco look like? Our new friends at Bronco6G have come up with a nifty rendering that, at the very least, is the fan-art equivalent of a popcorn flick.

If Ford’s US team come up with something even half as badarse as this, we humbly suggest they’ll have buyers the world over lining up. Especially if it follows the Mustang route and makes the new Bronco a global car in both left- and right-hand-drive configurations.

In the words of the creators: “For our concept Bronco, we fused styling elements from previous Bronco generations, the 2004 Bronco concept, and modern Ford trucks and SUVs”.

“You can see the classic round headlights and square inset front grille evolved from the 1st gen Bronco, which was also showcased in the retro-futuristic 2004 Bronco concept.

“Our concept features a modern body on frame next generation Bronco that retains a tall, boxy, tough, no-frills design with a strong focus on utility and off-road capabilities. We fitted separate versions with different grilles, wheel fender shapes, varying ride heights, and cargo rack for some different looks.”

As we recently reported, Ford has signposted plans to launch four brand-new SUV models — as in, new badges — to its global range by 2020. Speculation is rife that a Bronco, perhaps based on the (left-hand-drive-only) new aluminium-bodied F-Series, is one of those in the pipeline.

The ducks are lining up. The Wrangler is to a large degree carrying Jeep’s fortunes, while over the pond the next (and softer, non-body-on-frame) Land Rover Defender is being tuned for 2018 release. The stage, in other words, is set.

When asked about a reborn Bronco in Chicago last week, Ford vice-president of marketing, sales and service Mark LaNeve smiled and said: “It’s a great nameplate”.

Tell us in the comments below your thoughts on a potential new Ford Bronco. Should the Blue Oval brand take the plunge?
