2016 Subaru Outback pricing and specifications

The 2016 Subaru Outback has received minor revisions across the range, with the introduction of the company’s innovative Eyesight active safety technology as standard across the entire automatic line-up.

Subaru Australia has added the Eyesight driver assist system to the diesel models of the Outback range, finalising the systems' roll out across the entire range (manual models excluded). However, prices have also crept up by between $500 and $1500 across the range.

The Subaru Eyesight system, now in its third generation, brings technologies such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, pre-collision braking assist, pre-collision steering assist, lane departure warning and lead vehicle start alert.

The third-generation system can now detect brake lights as well as provide actual steering assistance to help prevent a frontal collision.

The inclusion of the active safety system is just as important to the Subaru brand as its all-wheel drive credentials, according to Subaru Australia’s managing director (story here).

Another update to the MY16 cars is the addition of its vision assist package to all Premium and R variants, which are the more advanced active safety technologies not offered in Eyesight.

Vision assist includes blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, auto dimming rear view mirror, high beam assist and rear cross traffic alert.

The addition of the system as standard kit across the range should see an even higher take up of fleet customers.

Other changes to the 2016 Subaru Outback range include the addition of a new Dark Blue Pearl exterior colour, while front fog lights on every Outback variant now come with halogen Daytime Running Lights (DRLs)

The entry-level Outback 2.5i and 2.0D gain electric folding door mirrors, while Subaru designers have given the 2.5i Premium and 3.6R variants a revised grille finish.

The base diesel Outback 2.0D also gets automatic headlights and front windscreen wipers while the two premium models, Outback 2.5i Premium and 2.0D Premium as well as the and 3.6R now come with an updated version of the factory fitted satellite navigation that includes the new Subaru Map Update Program, allowing for three years of free map updates (subject to the vehicle having its scheduled services performed through an authorised Subaru Service Centre).
