2017 Renault Megane wagon teased, Australian debut confirmed

The new 2017 Renault Megane wagon will debut at next month’s Geneva motor show, the French car maker has confirmed today.

A new teaser image offers a first official look at the 2017 Megane wagon, although spy photos published in January reveal more than a few of the new model’s key angles.

Joining the new hatch that was revealed at last year’s Frankfurt motor show, the wagon will round out the number of body styles that will be offered in the Megane range.

Although that means fans of the previous three-door hatch and two-door ‘coupe-convertible’ will go without, local wagon fiends will be well looked after.

Speaking with CarAdvice today, Renault Australia communications manager Emily Fadeyev confirmed that the Megane range will once again include a wagon option down-under.

“We certainly are planning on introducing the wagon variant to Australia. It is currently planned for a 2017 launch,” Fadeyev said.

In the current Megane range, the wagon variant is offered with 97kW/205Nm 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 81kW/240Nm 1.5-litre turbo diesel engines, along with a more sporting 162kW/340Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol with the GT220 models.

The new Megane wagon is expected to again mirror the powertrain options offered with the new hatch, which again means the 97kW/205Nm petrol 1.2 and 81kW/240Nm 1.5 diesel, but a less powerful 151kW/280Nm 1.6-litre turbo petrol GT model.
