The final ever Ford Falcon XR models will not only be the most powerful, but will also, from a performance perspective, be the best equipped.

Ford Australia has just launched a new mini-site for the XR Sprint range, detailing performance equipment and specification that will be released with the car.

Launch control will be standard across the Sprint range, with the ZF Sachs six-speed automatic now fitted with this technology as a first for Ford locally.

Also standard will be sticky Pirelli P-Zero tyres that measure 245mm at the front and 265mm at the rear — the widest ever for the XR6 Turbo and 10mm narrower than the current-generation non-Sprint XR8.

The tyres are teamed with giant Brembo brakes that measure 355mm at the front with six-piston calipers, while the rear comes in at 330mm with four-piston calipers.

The brake rotors are both cross-drilled and slotted for extra performance.

Just 1400 limited-edition XR6 and XR8 Sprint models will be released from May — 550 of the XR6 and 850 of the XR8, with 150 in total destined for New Zealand.

The XR6 Sprint will receive 325kW of power and 576Nm of torque — up from 270kW and 533Nm. That power figure jumps sharply to 370kW and 650Nm briefly when the 10-second overboost feature comes into play.

The XR8 Sprint, on the other hand, climbs to 345kW of power and 575Nm of torque — up from 335kW and 570Nm. It also features a brief overboost feature that pushes power and torque up to 400kW and 650Nm respectively.

The XR6 Sprint is priced from $54,990 and the XR8 Sprint from $59,990.

Ford also recently confirmed that the Sprint will benefit from carbon-fibre technology in the form of a custom-built air intake to further improve performance for both models.

CarAdvice will be attending the Sprint launch mid-March and will bring you more details as they come to hand.
