Audi Q2 teased ahead of Geneva debut

The upcoming Audi Q2, the smallest crossover yet from the luxury marque, has been teased online.

Hidden under a silk shroud, these teasers were posted on the company's Facebook page and are linked to a lengthly blog post (in German) about the model's development.

In the post, Steffen Tarashti, an Audi marketing specialist working on the new model, confirms that the Q2 will be launched at the Geneva motor show, with sales set to begin in Europe during the third quarter of 2016.

From the bits of the body that hug the cover, we can see that the new Q2 will be a five-door model with a prominent shoulder line that rises around the rear wheel arch.

In contrast to Audi's Q3, Q5 and Q7 SUVs, the Q2 looks as though it will feature a compact set of tail-lights. Up front, at least on high-end models, it will sport a set of LED driving light graphics not dissimilar to that of the Volvo XC90.

Under the skin, the Q2 will utilise the Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture for front- and all-wheel drive vehicles. Power will come from a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.

Although the Q2 name has not yet been confirmed for the teased vehicle, Rupert Stadler, Audi's CEO, did confirm last month that the company has acquired the rights to the Q2 and Q4 nameplates from Fiat Chrysler.

The Italian-American car maker has used the Q2 and Q4 names on various editions of its Alfa Romeo and Maserati vehicles over the years.
