Ford Falcon XR6 and XR8 Sprint spied ahead of May release

CarAdvice reader has spied Ford's yet to be released, limited-edition Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint and Falcon XR8 Sprint models, which are due to go on sale in May 2016.

We exclusively revealed last year that Ford Australia would revive the Sprint nameplate for a boosted set of XR6 Turbo and XR8 models.

The official confirmation from Ford confirmed that the Sprint nameplate would return and buyers would be graced with a generous power hike on XR6 Turbo and sharper performance on XR8.

1400 limited-edition XR6 and XR8 Sprint models will be released from May — 550 of the XR6 and 850 of the XR8, with 150 in total destined for New Zealand.

XR6 Sprint will receive 325kW of power and 576Nm of torque — up from 270kW and 533Nm. That power figure sharply jumps to 370kW and 650Nm briefly when the 10-second overboost feature comes into play.

XR8 Sprint on the other hand climbs to 345kW of power and 575Nm of torque — up from 335kW and 570Nm. It also features a brief overboost feature that pushes power and torque up to 400kW and 650Nm respectively.

The XR6 Sprint is priced from $54,990 and the XR8 Sprint from $59,990.

These pictures, which are exclusive to CarAdvice show an XR6 Sprint with the halo Smoke colour, while an XR8 Sprint next to it is finished in the brand's other halo colour, Victory Gold.

A close look at the brakes shows big cross-drilled rotors with Brembo brakes, which we now know are six-piston at the front and four-piston at the rear.

The front 3/4 panel shows Sprint branding in place of the indicator (which has been moved to the wing mirror), while the front bumper displays a new fog and headlight surround.

Around the back a black bootlip spoiler replaces the regular decklid spoiler and a discreet Sprint badge sits on the right hand corner.

The computer generated image above, which was released by Ford, doesn't show a graphic on the rear panel, so we think it's reserved for the XR6 Sprint only. In our pictures the XR6 Sprint features a '6' in a black line that runs down the back 3/4 panel.

After exclusively bringing you details of the Sprint trademark, the first spy photographs and the first production photographs — keep an eye on CarAdvice for our drive impressions as soon as we get our hands on what is potentially Ford's last hot Falcon.
