The way to keep a show oon TV for years is to either try and keep the central characters for as long as possible in the way that Hawkeye was for MASH....[Then there was Flag] Or don't stuff around with the format - I mean look at The British Cop show The Bill.. years ago it used to be a great show as it focussed mainly on crime and the actors were beleiveable whereas now alot of key characters have left and its more about their personal social life which is why its a pain to watch.

G'day Wheelnut, So, how do you create a T.V. show, and keep it on Air for years, and years? M.A.S.H. was on air for many years, however various players were swapped out, as they come and go. 60 Minutes has been on Air for 30 years world wide, bringing in new blood every now and then. Home and Away, Neighbors, and Days of our Lives, just to mention a few other long running shows on air. The only way any T.V. Show will last more than 10 seasons is to bring in new blood, to continue the series, it is a dangerous developing dynamic, and a very difficult thing to do with a very fickle audience. What if Evil "Hamster" Knevil doesn't recover from another dare devil stunt? So, "To be, or not to be" is the question?. If TOP Gear just stay with "Fabulous Clarkson", "Knevil Hamster" and "Which way did he go? May", will they still be doing laps around the tar mat when they are in their 70's in land speeders?! (those futuristic flying cars)

I can't see any other TopGear show getting off the ground as its the BBC which has the final say on who presents the show how the show is structured etc and as they own the rights to the TopGear name and everything associated with it I doubt that they would do anything which they thought would damage their reputatuion or that of TopGear

Not only that but there's only one Jeremy Clarkson

TOP Gear should franchise out, and make content in several major countries, just like 60 Minutes. UK, Australia, Yankieland, Canada, Brazil, and even perhaps some of the
Asian Countries. Use three Presenters from each country for the local content of each, and share broadcasts between the franchises. However, keep the stunts, Stig's, and fantastic humor. Perhaps have a double episode each year with a race between all the franchises to see who is the fastest. It would be a license to print money! Just like Microsoft. This would be an excellent way to keep the franchise going for years to come. Lets face it, the presenters will come and go at some point, so if you can move in new blood now and then, the dynamics of the show will continue. As long as the automobile is still made, Top Gear will have lots of content for years to come.

TOP Gear USA, is a very viable option, however they will need 3 presenters, that have the same regard for the Brits, as Clarkson has for the Americans. Kind of like you Ford, and Holden Blokes out there, it always makes things interesting for the audience. You could even see a race with the all the TOP Gear franchises at some point, just to see who is the fastest, in a reasonably priced car! Imagine, TG UK, TG USA, TG AUS, etc, and syndicated around the world, it would be a big money maker for the BBC.

Top Gear's MPH team to tour Australia with rolling motor-theatre show in 2008

So Go Auto have announced a few weeks ago

BRACE yourself because motoring’s ambassador of political incorrectness is coming to a town near you.

That’s right, Australia is next on the agenda to play host to the UK’s successful MPH Live Motoring Theatre show hosted by the Top Gear TV show’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

Instead of a one-off Sydney show in February, as had been originally planned, a positive response from many Australian car companies has resulted in a plan to bring the popular UK-based interactive motor show to Australia’s three largest cities within the next 18 months.

Depending on the availability of Mr Clarkson and his team, the MPH show is expected to kick-off in Sydney as early as April next year, before heading to Melbourne and then Brisbane.
