Volkswagen quality assurance chief resigns
Frank Tuch, Volkswagen Group's head of quality assurance, has quit the company and will be replaced by company veteran Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler.
In a statement issued overnight, Volkswagen says that Tuch is leaving the company "at his own request to take on new responsibilities elsewhere, and will continue to serve in an advisory capacity".
According to sources who spoken to Automotive News, Tuch was one of nine high-level managers placed on leave after the company began an internal investigation into the dieselgate emissions cheating scandal.

Tuch began his tenure as the Volkswagen Group's head of quality assurance in 2010 after a stint in a similar position at Lotus. He was recruited to the post by former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn. Winterkorn resigned from his position days after news of the dieselgate affair broke in September 2015.
Rothenpieler will leave his current role as the head of technical development for Volkswagen's commercial vehicle division, and will take over from Tuch from February 15, 2016.
Rothenpieler previously held this position from 2007 to 2010, when he was replaced by Tuch.
A 30 year veteran at the Volkswagen Group, Rothenpieler is a mechanical engineer by training and has previously been involved with the Skoda, Bentley and Volkswagen brands.
