2015-2016 Jeep Cherokee, 2015 Compass and Patriot recalled: Tailgate control, steering pump fire concerns

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has issued recall notices for nearly 4000 of its Jeep SUV models this week, affecting the all-new Cherokee and the ageing Compass and Patriot twins.

Owners of 2499 new-generation 2015-2016 Cherokee SUVs will be contacted over concerns that a potential short circuit could cause corrosion to occur in the powered tailgate’s control module.

In that event, water may intrude into the module, causing it to become inoperative or, in the worst case, cause a fire.

A further 1380 vehicles are affected in a recall of the 2015 Compass and Patriot SUVs, with FCA reporting that the power-steering hose clamp may not be installed correctly.

Leaking power-steering fluid may then make contact with an ignition source, potentially leading to fire in the engine compartment.

FCA has confirmed it will contact Cherokee, Compass and Patriot owners to arrange inspection and, if necessary, repair.
