2011 Hyundai Elantra spy pics

By Matt Brogan |

Although we were expecting the new Elantra to debut in 2013 new spy pics today substantiate rumours that a 2011 model year is on the way.

With a longer wheelbase, estimated at around 2700mm, the new Elantra also features a coupe-like roof line at the rear suggesting a hatch-sedan arrangement similar to the Mazda6 – or perhaps even Skoda Octavia.

Though hard to tell with all the camo, the profile’s certainly better looking than the current one. Nice to see Hyundai concentrating on giving their cars a sense of style now, and not just settling on being cheap and cheerful. I hope they can work on the ride and handling as well, this is the one area where their cars have always been only adequate.

The way modern car design is heading the only thing you will be able to see out of the rear windows soon may be sky! That rear window looks like it is migrating up and over to become a sunroof.

wonder if you can see kids out the rear window when reversing out a driveway? Lots of boot to hit them with. The 1970,s cars I used to own where great, looking out the rear window while reversing you had almost as good visability as looking out the windscreen going forward.

In 90% of city driving, which is going to be most practical: low drag Aerodynamics (in 30km – 60km/hr stop start traffic?) or good allround visability (higher drag, but at low speeds so what?)?

    Think about it

Good Its supposed to look like a Luxury car. It will even have a chrome Grille for the American, Cninese, and Korean Buyers, and Leather seats will be available in the base trim.

No more Hubcaps on any Hyundais, ever again. Well at least in the US. The Interior looks like Acura Meets Honda. Edmunds recommends that if you want something between Acura and Honda, you should cross shop Hyundai.

Matt Brogan, the new Model was supposed to be a 2012 Model.

The Elantra will be the Next Car to debut under the 24/7 2.0 plan (New York Auto Show in April), then Azera, then Accent, then Veracruz, then Santa Fe. Then it goes back to Next Gen Genesis sedan/coupe.

That Veloster is an Accent Hatch. That HED-5 Hatch=next Gen i30/Elantra Touring. That Genus Concept=i40/Sonata Touring. They are still deciding on an Elantra and Sonata Coupe.

    Elantra/i30 Will share:
    1. A 1.6L 145 HP 45 MPG GDI powertrain with Accent.
    2. 2.0 GDI 166 HP 40 MPG with i30.
    3. 2.0T GDI (updated) with Genesis Coupe.
