2017 Mazda CX-4/CX-6 Koeru crossover spied

Chinese website PopSUV has published images of what looks to be the Mazda Koeru crossover in its final production form, following its recent concept debut at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show.

The vehicle shown here, spied at a Mazda post-production facility in China, is expected to come to market as the all-new Mazda CX-4 or Mazda CX-6.

The location of these shots also comes as a clear sign that Mazda plans on selling the model in China before the rest of the world, as we discovered last year.

A closer image of the car shows a premium front-end that features LED or bi-xenon headlights with washers, along with alloy wheels that look similar to the current generation CX-5.

Interior photographs of the car reveal a premium leather interior, electrically assisted handbrake, push-button start, Mazda MZD Connect controller and new, premium looking gauges, along with a heads-up display module.

Mazda's SkyActic architecture is modular, so it's expected that the CX-4 or CX-6 will sit on an existing SUV platform, meaning we are likely to see it share engines with the CX-5 or CX-3.

The vehicle pictured shows an 8000rpm readout on the tachometer in a similar format to petrol CX-3 variants, suggesting it's likely to be a petrol offering.

While the dimensions of this vehicle are unknown, the Mazda Koeru crossover concept measured in at 4.6m long, 1.9m wide and 1.5m high.

These dimensions make it 60mm longer and wider than a CX-5 and around 200mm lower. This would suggest it could possibly be offered as a 'sporty' alternative.

At the 2015 Frankfurt motor show, Mazda said that the Koeru is “targeted at customers with a cutting-edge mind-set".

"The Mazda Koeru is a bold challenge to the existing crossover market and embodies Mazda’s on-going quest to deliver pure driving pleasure," the company said.

Given the completed form of the vehicle, it's likely that it will be shown at the 2016 Geneva motor show in March this year. CarAdvice will keep you posted as more information comes to hand.

Do you like the look of this new design? Or is it too conservative in comparison to the Mazda Koeru concept?
