By Matt Brogan |

The new HSV E Series 2 range, unveiled for the first time today, represents the best in Australian luxury and performance motoring.

As part of the unveil, each model receives its own unique character and points of difference, which will be readily identifiable to the HSV owner.

A range of options are also available under the ‘SV Enhanced’ banner, to further customise the HSV E2 Series.

SV Enhanced optioned vehicles receive a new ‘Race Relations’ inspired rear designator in red, courtesy of the HSV design team. GTS owners who purchase the new six piston brake calliper option receive their SV Enhanced and GTS badges in yellow.

*Pricing is a guide as recommended to us by the manufacturer.

  • Mitch

The GTS is a lot more expensive for 8kws and a few gadgets.

  • http://navelcontemplation.blogspot.com Supercujo

For years, bogans lambasted asian cars and their penchant for lots of plastic, scoops and extraneous lighting. Oh, how the tables have turned…

  • Brett

    These cars look just awful.

    • ABMPSV

      I agree just awful!!

  • HS-WHAT

    * All new sophisticated front and rear appearance incorporating subtle elements of the shockwave graphic theme’

I love comments like these, this is when you know a car manufacturer is getting desperate. They have to try and convince you its sophisticated because your natural reaction is to think what a disgusting cheap-a$$ looking front and rear end. They even gave this travesty of design a name, ‘shockwave’. Heres a shockwave for you HSV, everyone is laughing at this ridiculous abomination ! Theyve given it their own name and it also starts with S but ends with T !

  • tommo617

Wow – the lower air intake sure looks a lot like they stole the shape off the current Euro Fords…like the Mondeo, Focus and Fiesta…but then again the VE tail lights are from a Magna, so I am not really suprised

  • Carfanatic

This is all a joke guys, the pics are Lego’s spin on HSV vehicles, we will all wake up tomorrow and realise it was just a bad dream.

  • ABMPSV

I this HSV is so good how come only around 1000? sold OS. Even Skoda is selling in more countries than this so called Best Car. I can only see big engine and No technology. Every year they just increase the size of engine and they saying – we beat the Germans – What about make engine smaller with more power and less fuel. That is a challenge!! They should go to Europe 24H Nurburgring if is so good. Japanese go there so does the Americans with Corvette and they did well in 24H Le Mans! HSV it is easy to be a big boy at home where is no competition Go OS!!

  • HBB

Hi All, Can’t agree more with all the above comments about the looks of new HSV.
I picked up my new E1 Clubport R8 yesterday and was very worried about the new shape, but guess what I can’t stop laughing. I saved $17K on the price of the new car which will go towards awesome upgrades including a blower.
I don’t mind the front of the new car but the rear, what were they thinking…come on, atleast they should have showed it to few of their loyal customers and asked for their opinion.
I know lot of places in melbourne who do custom body kits, they would have saved HSV a lot of $$$$ for HSV given them something to smile about..
But if you are in market for one, now is not a bad time to buy the old one at ridiculous price.
    HSV faithful customer.

  • Eureka

When all the top European manufacturers design their high-performance sedans they don’t see the need to have over-the-top body kits and wings…so why does HSV?

Surely an understated yet subtly aggressive look is the way to go and would appeal to a much wider audience?

Only the Senator (almost) fits the bill…but then you still get that awful rear end and have to pay top dollar for it…whilst losing some of the ‘sportiness’ (i.e. interior/handling).

And one more thing…where’s the ‘new technology’ LPG version that HSV have been promising us since last year?

  • Jon Leong

as per my comment on the other page

the Grange looks OK… oh wait that because they have done nothing to ruin the styling. correct me if i am wrong… but the only appearance change are the wheels. Actually, aren’t they available as options on E1?

  • Aussie Cars

Grange looks good …Senator looks ok… But Im still in shock at what Im seeing… Are they serious? The rest of the range would not be that without those scoops….but those scoops….oh those scoops….

Buy an SS and take it to walkinshaw performance… HSV has lost the plot

    • Tael

lol they recycled those scoops from the Pontiac G8 that General Motors axed haha – non-functional and fake

  • Yanzo

i’d go in there and be like yo, do you have the old version?

  • James OBrien

Matt – you didn’t write this – it’s a HSV press release – why don’t you mention that?

    http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=125143

  • Shak

At least they didnt mess with the beauty of the Grange.

  • Andrew

Oh god, they’ve just killed the senator, the R8, Maloo and GTS people would live with the E1 was much better, but its far from AU ugly, but senetor was always my favourite car, but not anymore!

At least the Grange is still beautiful.

I’m annoyed about the senator though, looks kinda like a Honda Legend grill.

    • Shak

Exactly what i was thinking. But if you look at it in the group shot, it sort of looks like the older CTS grille from the US. maybe that was to compensate for cadillac not coming here.

  • Adam

Urrgghh…….HSV has reverted back to their usual tasteless self.
The Senator looks like a Chinese copy of a Honda Legend!
Perhaps HSV has finally realised how to preserve the resale value of their used cars……

  • Andrew

Does the range topping Grange have daytime running light ?

It seems strange that it doesn’t (could be mistaken) and the ‘lower’ models do ?

    • Byron

      No, it doesn’t Andrew

  • Byron

The HSV doesn’t look to bad. I don’t like the rear on GTS/R8 & the wheels on GTS. It will grow on me. GRANGE looks even more grown up & those LED lights look so cool. Something FPV wishes for. Give it a chance. Go HSV

    • Azza

FPV don’t need to wish for them because they have lights that work just as good if not better for a fraction on the price you’d pay for LED’s or Xenons…

  • Motorhead

I’m guessing they’ve made manual a regular option now on the Senator Signature by the mention of the launch control in it’s features.

  • darren

The Series 1 was an aggressive awesome looking machine, this one is a disaster. I don’t think I’ve read 1 comment that says they like it. No doubt wheels Magazine will rave on about it !!

  • The Realist

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…..

Sorry, I haven’t laughed so hard in ages. Those owners trading in their E46 BMW 318i’s for one of these might just think twice.

Next thing you know there will be “Australia 2 – Germany 0″ because the Germans haven’t got the “shockwave graphic theme”.

They’ve even ruined the Senator which was the nicest looking of the bunch.
So they have DRL’s but no xenons??

If anyone needed convincing as to which part of society this company caters to, I present you the HSV E2 range!

  • Ro

“As part of the unveil, each model receives its own unique character and points of difference, which will be readily identifiable to the HSV owner.”

I think this line is classic. You don’t need to be an HSV owner to readily identify the points of difference between each model.

The Clubsport is ugly. The GTS is uglier. The Senator is uglier still. The Tourer has extra windows. the Maloo has less windows. The Grange is a limo.

Thank GOD they didn’t mess with the Grange. It is now the only looker in the HSV stable.

By the way, is that Senator grille inspired by the VC?

  • http://www.checkwebhosting.com Neutral

    *PUKE*

  • topdog

Its because the nose on the ve is blunt and ageing thay have tried to give it a bit of a nose job and put bit lenth to it and try and copy all the euro and ford cars with the big mouth look and the those spot lights but it just dose not gell with the car at all its quiet embarasing realy

  • Torrie’s Rule

I’ve got an E1 Tourer. Thank God I didn’t wait for the new model. What the hell were they thinking? What loyal customers did they ask when planning? the Germans?.
The Cruise controls and elec windows are good, but Launch control? the cars just going to be fighting it self by braking and trying to feed in power at the same time. Turn it off and ride the clutch, most performance holden drivers know how to slip the clutch.

  • t

    Byron

why would FPV wish for the mardi gras ricer lights????

    this is hideous!!!

i do however like the senator ( its allways been the best looking hsv ) and the grange too.

clubby and gts… HAHAAHGHHAHAH!!!!! oh god this is so funny

    • Byron

Because it’s a unique feature. They look so cool

  • Tael

    LOL seriously?
    $83k for a 317 Senator Signature?
    $88k for a Grange?

    Buy the F6-E for $78k

    • whatefa

      Not everyone wants a Falcon

      • Erine

they certainly wont want these awfully looking HSVs LOL baahhahaha
who designed these – they need to be shot

  • Paullio

    .

  • whatefa

Words of wisdom from the same posters who said the Cruze is a dud that wouldn’t sell, and the new Holden SIDI engines would be second rate…

These cars are eye catching and muscular.
Fast in a straight line, as well as around corners.

These new HSVs will sell like hot cakes.

    • Shak

However hard it is to admit, i think hes right. No matter how bad HSV have looked in the pst and recently, they have always sold regardless. I think with the Grange they have incorporated the DLR’s into the headlight cluster above the xenons. As for the rest of the range….. well the VF cant come quick enough.

    • Ben

That was a joke right? These things might sell, but only cause its got a hsv badge on it, not because its a great car, cause its ugly as. Itl be in the shaddow in a big way next year. GTS will only just marginally if not at all a better car then FPV’s F6, and do we want to compare prices??

    • Azza

Ok, FPV’s are faster. They may have a tiny little bit less power, but they’re lighter and have more technology, that’s both in a straight line and around corners.

FPV’s are also eye catching, and muscular… and graceful but still angry looking, while at the same time not being ugly and a catastrophe like the HSV range… I’d also like to point out that FPV are actually Australian (with the exception of the V8 engine), and they’re cheaper.

Holden have been getting closer to bankruptcy every waking minute… and this is supposed to help them with their finance problems… I think not

Words of wisdom back at ya…

  • sintilate

i see a Honda grill (accord euro) on the Senator – but what else would you expect from a company which has models from Korea dominting its line up and controlled from a bankcrupt out of touch US firm. nice engines drivelines etc but damn ugly

  • Ben

So the GTS is the only one with more power, whats the torque output? Surely hsv could have put more power to the rest of them aswell, n 80 grand for a GTS? Yeah……dnt think so. Im a ford fan, but admittingly was interested in what these new HSV’s would be like, and what a dissapointment, its pretty much just a body kit job. I thought hsv already had launch control? Ford/FPV have had in since last year, guess someones playing the catch up game hey? HSV are in big big big trouble I think when FPV release there new range next year

  • vunsta

Is that not a Ford/FPV intake grill I see on the front??? I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. C’mon HSV don’t just rehash design cues from Audi (LED lights), FPV (Intake grill), Pontiac GTO (rehashed bonnet scoops) and Aurion TRD exhausts. I really thought you got your own design groove with the E1? What happened? Learn from the guns at Jaguar, design restraint doesn’t mean less aggression or less presence. Beauty and power and co-exist!

  • Belinda

why on earth do people think the E2 is ugly for the fact that it has cost saving parts and is fractionally cheaper than a BMW/Audi/Merc? HSVs aren’t cheap vehicles themselves in the scope of things and there are plenty of better looking cars that cost half an HSV. Money does not dictate shapes in design, it dictates aesthetic elements and material use. the least HSV can do is get their proportions right. it almost looks as if HSV could SAVE money if they kept it plain and simpler.

Accord euro would be the best example of fine lines, correct proportions while still looking like a million bucks. it didn’t take money to come up with a look like that, it took a decent designer who is past puberty.

    • Carfanatic

Belinda, BMW, Audi and Merc are only so much more expensive because of the taxes lumped on them by the Australian Government. A new BMW M3 saloon in the UK is 49,525 drive away. At the current exchange rate that is 95,000 AU$ yet BMW still use superior materials and have superior build quality. Don’t confuse massive Government taxes with the reason HSV use cheap materials and equally cheap build quality. BMW don’t see anywhere near the full $145,000 they charge for a new M3.

Now the Vauxhall VXR which is essentially a rebadged HSV is only 22.5% cheaper than a BMW M3 in the UK, but I’m guessing the quality is far greater. Where as here, the GTS will be nearly 45% cheaper than an M3. Is this making sense?

      • Adorn4stars

in other words, you’re reinforcing the fact that HSV has no excuse for producing such a range that looks cheap and cluttered since the exterior on cars like a BMW are vastly better executed on a not so distant budget? i think that’s what Blinda was heading towards

      • Brandon

To be fair, BMW has cheap looking interior too but their exterior and overall build quality is way ahead, as they should be since the car costs so much. The Aussies need to lift their game if they are to match the Germans and Japanese in quality game and if they think the VE/HSV is the way to go then they’re wrong, those are barely a beachmark in world standards and who can forget those problems that the VE has and still have.

  • Steve

I’m disappointed with HSV. Those cars are going to date so quickly. The back end (read rear windows/ glass) of the wagon already looks last year and you can’t bring Ford’s wagon into the argument because it’s a trade special, not a high priced performance car.
Lots of little things just don’t add up for me. I see what they’ve tried to do with the projector headlamps (was all the rage a year or so ago), but the execution looks busy and confused with the old fashioned driving and marker lights (which seems to have been untouched) next to it. The top and bottom feature lines from the front fender scoop don’t follow the lines that go through the doors up to the rear quarter panel, there’s a clear step down when you look at all the photos. I hated the way this is on the Barinas (the way the plastic appliqué on the door feature lines was pathetic) and I put that down to Korean styling. Now the lack of attention to detail seems to be creeping into HSV..
All the scooping doesn’t work for me either. I can’t help think racially discriminatory thoughts when I see scoops like that on anything other than a race car on a race/rally track. And the adding of appliqués to highlight them on the bonnet and bumper just makes it worse.
If I had the kind of money to sink on a brand new high performance saloon, and I wasn’t Holden centric, I wouldn’t consider one of these. There are too many little things like that would gnaw at me to the point of depression. Plus I can’t imagine making my money if I was to sell it quickly.

  • Jester

I thought that I’m in minority thinking these cars look awful – just glad I haven’t gone blind, since majority of comments here have similar opinion to mine. HSV – you got this so wrong.

  • David

Ugliest car I have ever seen. The Nissan Micra is more attractive.

  • Decipherer

Golly, what a disaster of a design.Frankly, HSV should just sack their highly paid design team for creating these “Korean / Chinese” looking ugly cars. To think that recently I got a stack cash and was contemplating buying a new Senator with a Walkinshaw Performance Pack. But now it seems that an SS with a Walkinshaw pack is a much better option. Since I wouldn’t get the “Shockwave” looking car or should I say it would be “Shocking” to look at it everyday, and it would be an embarrasment to drive.

  • Mat

my idea is that all you guys need to open ur eyes and look at these beautful cars and wake up and not be jelous
