Tesla cracks 50,000 deliveries in 2015

Tesla delivered a record-setting 17,400 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2015, taking its annual total to 50,580.

Of the total Q4 sales, 17,192 were Model S’, which is a figure 48 per cent greater than the previous quarterly record. It’s also 75 per cent higher than the Q4 tally for 2014.

Tesla says 208 units of the new Model X luxury crossover also made their way into driveways, with the other 299 produced over the period to be delivered early this year.

The company said: “Model X deliveries are in line with the very early stages of our Model X production ramp as we prioritise quality above all else”.

“That ramp has been increasing exponentially, with the daily production rate in the last week of the year tracking to production of 238 Model X vehicles per week.”

Tesla still has a policy to not disclose individual market deliveries, meaning there’s no public official figure for Australian Model S sales in 2015.

Expect 2016 to be a big year for Tesla in Australia, though, given its continued rollout of the Supercharger fast-charge network, and the Model X launch around September.
