Vauxhall Maloo LSA uncovered: brutal ute on sale in the UK

General Motors brand Vauxhall has uncovered its version of the HSV Maloo R8 LSA ute in the form of the Vauxhall Maloo LSA.

The company has stated frankly that it positions the ute as a performance model, stating that "while our rivals will wow you with improvements in emissions and fuel economy in a CV’s (commercial vehicle's) new model year, our offering – the new Maloo LSA – is more likely to impress with the arrival of its all-new, supercharged 6.2-litre, 536PS V8 engine".

In fact, the company goes as far as to suggest that the Maloo LSA offers the "hilarious prospect of 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 4.6 secs from a CV capable of hauling half a tonne".

That new engine is the same fitted to the Gen-F2 Maloo R8 LSA in Australia, and it sees the Aussie-made mega-truck pump out 400kW and 671Nm. As such it is the fastest commercial vehicle on sale in the UK (and probably the world!).

There are no significant changes between the HSV version and the Vauxhall model, apart from the new badge on the bonnet and the VXR badge on the tailgate. The HSV steering wheel badge remains. Read full details of the HSV Maloo R8 LSA and the rest of the updated Gen-F2 HSV range.

The Vauxhall Maloo is priced at £55,500 driveaway with six-speed manual transmission and £57,200 driveaway with the six-speed auto, which equates to $116,000 for the manual and $119,800 for the auto. That makes the respective $76,990 and $79,490 (plus on-roads) prices in Australia seem like a steal.

As Australian manufacturing of the Holden Ute will cease when the Aussie arm of GM shuts down its local plant in 2017, this is likely to be the final ever version of the Vauxhall Maloo sold in the UK.
